My little brother and I are doing a HMMWV build off while I’m down at college. He’s got the 1/35 Tamiya kit that he’s going to up-armor with a Legends kit. I’m going to do some of Dragon’s 1/72 scale M1114 HMMWVs but to slow me down/let my brother and his large, overly detailed kit stand a chance at an equal build off race- I’m going to add a Bradley and a bunch of little 1/72 scale figures and make a street corner diorama.
Here are my kits-

And here are his-

cool chris. although i dont know why you would actually WANT to do something so small!!! [:-,] i really want to see it though, especially that legends kit!! good luck u two!! [tup]
Thanks Tom, haha well, when my brother made his Panther ( /forums/1164305/ShowPost.aspx ) in 1/72, I was blown away with the level of detail. Combined with the ease of construction and lack of PITA subassemblies etc- simple enough to put together over a long weekend and get a base coat on. But great raised detail and panel lines for DBing/washes, I hope it turns out great- that Legends kit does look crazy, I haven’t seen it in real life, but he got it in the mail today and said it weighed a ton. I don’t know how it had a free shipping deal- but for a $75 kit, I guess they can throw in things like that. There goes all his xmas money! Thanks for the wishes- it’ll probably take the whole semester.
well sure it weighs a ton, the only thing left of the original kit is the hood!!! [(-D]
I KNOW RIGHT!! haha they should just call it a 1151 kit and mold a new hood!
yep!!! and ya know what gets me too is they make all this detail and dont make a resin mk19…what’s up with that??? [D)]
haha yeah really… to be honest though, the Tamiya Mk. 19 has some crisp detail, I’m sure you know- you have the kit. The resin replacement by Verlinden was actually pretty soft, better blueprint detail- and PE sights which was nice, but the resin didn’t have any real hard edges, it was all kind of mopey [:(]
true, but ya just figure if they’re going the extra mile…why not?? whatever!
Yeah yeah. But then they’d need to make a .50 cal too, and an M240- it would have been craaazy… lol yeah I don’t know why [banghead]
Nothing like a little sibling-rivalry to provide some motivation! Look forward to seeing who comes out ahead. [:-^]
Thanks for checking in wbill- motivation will be key as neither I nor my brother really ever build things in a timley manner. My brother will have a head start as he already has his update kit (and has started right? Riiight??). Mine are a few days away in the mail.
yeah, well, while i want to see that conversion kit, i also want to see that bradley built!!
Yeah, I’ll be starting it up quick I think- as building 2 mini HMMWVs will get a little repetitive, so while attempting to vary the two 1114s as drastically as possible to keep things interesting, if that (more like when that) slows down- I’ll throw the M3 in there. Should be any day now Tom, maybe tomorrow- hope no later than Friday [:)]
Can’t wait to start this! Waiting for the base hood to come in the mail. LOL! It’s going to take me a while. Chris at least has a chance in the building portion of it. [:-^]
Cool–that Hummer with all the PE looks serious! The completed one is pretty nicely done too!
[(-D] you mean you haven’t started bending brass?? I know how much you love that…
Thanks for stopping in Doog! Make sure to stop in now and again as my brother and I race to make our Humvees look something like that NATO tricolor Tamiya promo image up there [;)]
I hope my brother can handle all the PE that kit comes with, I know it’d be a headache for me. We’ll probably have to invest in an etchmate sooner or later, this whole bend around xacto blades, handles, dowels and fingers only does so well.
Will- are you going to really try soldering? I think it’d be a good call- make sure Dad helps you out though. Chances are you’ll only get burned once or twice- it’s like an initiation haha
less talk more pictures!! [:D] p.e…better u will than me!!
