Psstoff995 Family HMMWV Build Off

Thanks guys.

Chris- I might sodder it. I don’t know yet. I’m cutting out the resin now. Thanks for leaving the saw blade!

Not looking forward to the p. e. though.

No problem [tup] sometimes for large, thick chunks though, if there’s no nearby detail- go ahead and use the Dremel to really blow through it- might keep you sane.

Speaking about keeping sane- at the end of the day when you’re done with the resin, post some shots of the whole pile or scan the instructions or something. I’m curious and Tom’s loosing it!! haha [:P]

i’m not losing it chris…ummmmm…just anxiously awaiting someone to actually finish something!!! [(-D]

Just cutting out and trimming up the parts for now. Doing some test fitting. This things small- bigger than I thought scale wise though (the Bradley’s not much bigger- that’s without wheels and turret though… so I’m sure it will look in scale later).

Nice! I’m still cutting out the resin. I’ll post my progress on the resin cutting soon. [:D]

Sorry I’m not going fast enough for you Camo!

haha don’t worry if you think I’m pulling ahead Will- I have a 24 hour EMS shift tomorrow for move in and then classes start on Monday, so it’ll be slow going from there. That’s why I went with 1/72, not enough time to build and paint 1/35 inbetween classes

hahaha ok.

Well I have class starting in a week. [yuck]

Yeah yeah- make sure you get some serious work done after school though- before crew season starts!! AHH! lol

Lookin’ good guys. Sorry for the late start, but you got to let me know!!! Will be following this one.

Lil bro … let me know how those interior pieces look. I ordered just the interior kit for my HMMWV builds. (And just to let you know … the Legends kit IS actually an 1151 update. I have no idea why they call it an 1114. Unless you’re doing an engine update and all that mess, the armor package that you’re running is that of on of the newer 1151s).

Thanks for checking in Scott, don’t worry- you’re not late we only just started.

Yeah- Will’s converting it to a 1151, did I confuse myself somewhere? The 1/72 Dragon kit is labeled 1114, that’s mine- is that really a 1114? I really don’t know the differences between the two, only that they’re both factory armor kits. I know my doors don’t look as crazy as his doors and mine doesn’t have any of that IED radio devise stuff, also my turret only has a shield, no little enclosed armor and glass.

Do you happen to know the years when the 1114 and 1151 kits were introduced? I think we had decided on '05 for my HMMWVs and Bradley. But if I wanted to convert one of my 1114s to a 1151 with the enclosed turret and maybe one of those anti-sniper/shade roofs out of wire, would that be too late for '05/would it be out of place next to a 1114?

I was also thinking about giving one of the HMMWVs it’s own base and a few figures like a vignette… then have the EFP raid dio separate. Let me know what you think.

I think that you will be fine building yours mostly OOB. However, it wouldn’t be out of place to scratch a “steel” fabbed turret to go w/ the shield … and sniper/ sun cover started being used soon after. Per our PMs what you have to understand about the 1114s armor is that it was ever changing/ growing to meet the security needs of the crew. I don’t think that the frag5 kits and doors (like the ones in my “Calm” build) were introduced until around the 06-07 era. Might be wrong on that, but when I go there in 07 again, we had one truck that was just coming out of the shop, getting the frag5 kit. You’re questions are looking for one particular fish in the middle of the ocean … w/ a hurricane approaching. That’s how fast things can change there.

As far as you dio/vignette ideas … I think that you’re good to go.

Alright- I’ll go for the steel fabricated turret (welded field job right- no paint/rusted steel- or did you guys paint them somehow?) and the factory shield for the 05 diorama and then maybe try and modify my kit to get a frag5 kit for the stand alone vignette and place it in 07.

By the sound, it looks like 05 is pretty vague (which is good as I’m usually not this much a stickler for 100% accuracy with time/units and their vehicles) and if I wanted a real specific vehicle, I’d have to pick the month and the day of the week, or find a reference picture with a time stamp. I’ll just leave it as a catch all for the whole year and then anything should kind of fit in for the most part. I don’t think I’ll go for the sniper/sun cover- I was looking at it, way too small in 1/72 anyway.

Hey did you guys ever have any of those “stay back 100 feet” type signs on the back of your Cav HMMWVs or was that more a MP/convoy deal? The kit comes with PE to make it happen, although they label it as rear armor, was it a multipurpose or did some units just add the sign to the armored panel?

cant speak for scott but my time it was only during convoy’s…ya know way back in them middle ages things people always talk about!! [(-D]

haha alright, that’s what I figured anyway- thanks for your midieval perspective Tom [:P]

Cannot model til Monday [BH]. Sorry camo, I havn’t posted anything for you!

Scott- The interior looks awesome (for one who hasn’t seen the real thing at least) I’ll post pics of the parts and instructions tomorrow night.

Looks good Chris. [tup]

get-r-done lil-bro as i want to see this thing…as well im sure alot of other people do too…they’re just to scared to tell ya! [;)]

Yeah I thought as much Will. I’m pulling ahead! [:P] I’ve got quite a few small parts to cut out and I’m trying to figure out the best way to get some scale thickness shields (it’s the bullet proof glass that’s got me hung up) I’ll figure something out…

But that’s HMMWV 1 of 2 and I have hardly opened the Bradley up so you’ve got some time. [:-,]

And don’t even worry ~40 figures?! uhg

Dug this one up in the old Mayhem thread- hope you don’t mind the repost Scott-

Nix the BPG- this’ll work great!

I’ll post my progress tomorrow as stated. Hope it’s up to your expectations!

It’s up to mine, so far.

Chris- bullet proof glass for what? aren’t the windows already cut out? (mine aren’t I think mom has a diamond glass cutter from stain glass work) Woo Hoo! [:D]
