Reasoned: after painting the base colour and applying a gloss coat of Future and decalling, I used a mixture of black acrylic Tamiya paint, with water and several drops of dishsoap. With a fine brush, let the mixture flow into the panels/rivet depressions, let it dry for a few minutes, then gently wipe the excess off with a dry or slighly dampened Q-tip, trying to follow air flow. If it is really damp, the excess is entirely removed, but if it is dry, a slight streaking will be formed, giving a worn/used/dirty appearance to the surface, if that is what you are aiming for. It can take quite a while to do this, especially on a big plane. I also applied pigments (chalk dust) also to give it a worn appearance.

Do you spray the future full stength with an air brush and I assume it’s the same stuff used to coat the clear parts? Is the black acrylic paint a flat or gloss or does it matter? Thanks for the info, that weathering job is top notch.

Reasoned: I don’t think it matters, but I use just “black” acrylic. I also spray Future full strength, but have yet to get a really nice gloss coat- I still have lots of pebbling and roughness. I’ve tried different mixtures with rubbing alcohol, but I still can’t get it right. I am thinking about brushing it on next time

Hey Rob, I spray my future at a low pressure and don’t thin it any, just right out of the bottle, spray on in multicoats, I get a Bright shine this way. I also have experience as a body man for real 1:1 cars so that helps. My advice is to shoot straight out of the bottle.
