Here are some more progress shots of my Revellgram 1/48 F/A-18C some of you have been clamering to see. Pictures are of prewash to panel lines I did a few days ago to see if there were are mistakes to the scribing I needed to fix before I start air brushing standard colors. I mixed up Plaid Acrylic paints Ivory White and Licorice Black to get a very dark gray and thinned it with dish soap and warm water so it would fill in the panel lines. Then I took alcohol wipes and cleaned off the excess paint around the panel lines. I’ll be doing this same wash again after I have paint her. I think it looks pretty darn good from here and I saw I made no mistakes I didnt catch before I primer coated her.
Just a few things left to mask off and then she is off to be airbrushed. I hope to have her finished by the end of the month.
Now on with the show! All comments and critiques welcome!
[soapbox] OK! thats it! I’m taking my toys and I’m going home. NO MORE progress updates until I have finished a model. You Guys are MEAN![:D] Just Kidding.
sorry for taking so long just got home from work, that looks really great, i prfer to just pencil them in after paint then put a clear coat onafter that, takes less time and if you make a mistake just erase and try again. but again that does look exceptional.
Chopper, its masking tape. Revell often doesn’t mold clear parts correctly and you are left with gaps after you fix their mistakes, the tape was applied as masking to keep paint off of any cockpit parts inside due to the gap between canopy and wind screen that might otherwise get blown in when I airbrush colors I’m planning to paint her. I pretty much do this with all my builds. It’s a @$%&*$#@ to re-touch cockpit detail if paint gets inside, so I do this to protect it.
Outstanding work! It’s gonna look great when it’s done. Your patience to rescribe that bird is acceptional. If you ever want to do one in flight and geardown, I can modify the gear for you like I did here. I’ll be waiting for your next progress pix with anticipation.[8D]
Eddie, Wulf, Eizzle and Rick, Thanks for the kind words!
The scribe I did to this Bug was the first for me. I have never ever considered doing scribing because I always found it intimidating. I’m really glad everyone that posted likes it.
Eddie, I may indeed take you up on that offer when I get around to getting the Revell Super Bug E. The other bugs are going to be displayed from cieling for now until wife and I move to KY and I get a room to myself as a Model Workshop, then they will be displayed on shelves I’m planning to build myself.
Another thing Eddie, the idea for the wash I got from you, Yeah YOU! You inspired it when I was reading your post of how you washed the landing gear on the Tomcat and thought to myself your wash method would also work very well for washing scribed panel lines too. So to you I give the credit for the wash idea. [tup] WTG!
Anytime, anywhere! Seeing as it’s been a while since I did those, I’m sure I can do a much better job this time around. I’m glad to see the “sludge” worked for the weathering on your bird. It’s a trick I picked up from the FSM mag a few years ago.
Just finished doing a “wet” masking to the wheel wells with strips of wetted paper towels stuffed into them, when that dries in a few days I’ll be ready to airbrush her. I’ll also be adding walkway decals to the LEX’s I made myself as well as the other custom decals I made, She is going to be One BAD Bug!
Dang! Someone here doesnt know about Air Master. [:O]
I know about Air Master, and he doesnt have another F-18 kit to have the main landing gear modifed by Eddie which is why he told Eddie he will wait til he has the Revell Super Bug “E”. Reason I know about this is because … [:-,] I’m Air Master!
