Profile pictures and names

While scrolling through various posts over the last few days, I started to wonder about some of the various images everyone uses along with their chosen moniker.

While there are some people here who use their real name, most have a nickname or variation of their real name. My question therefore is this, is there any significance or history related to your moniker and if so, would you be willing to share it?

Same question goes for the image you have chosen for your profile? Is it a picture you took yourself, found online and liked it, historically important to you, or even sentimental?

I think there could be some interesting stories here. As for “Frozin”, that goes way back to my time living in the arctic about twenty years ago. For the most part, being stuck in a crew house for about 6 months each year I played a lot of online games like Call of Duty, etc. Most of the people I knew online were from the US and were always commenting about how cold it must be and how my satellite internet back then would lag and freeze up on a regular basis. It didn’t take long for them to just start calling me Frozin.

Profile picture is of one of the most underrated heavy metal tuba players ever to take on the mighty brass instrument as a member of “Billy and the Boingers” formerly known as Deathtongue.

This cartoon strip was and still is my favourite and I have most of the books in the collection, while still on the lookout for the out of print ones I am still missing.

Well, I am a man, and I am a graduate of Texas A&M University, the Aggies. So Aggieman. Texas A&M football has become very much like the Chicago Cubs prior to 2016 or the Boston Red Sox prior to 2004, with both suffering long droughts of futility between World Series titles. A&M last won a football national title in 1939, and as of last Saturday, came up short once again at ending that long streak. I’m just hoping that I’ll still be here when they break the streak, but otherwise I have instructed both of my kids to come to my gravesite to play a radio of any potential national title game in which the Aggies might appear.

They call Aggies such as myself as “red ass” or “maroon blooded” - both apply to me. But it goes beyond the athletic field or court. The degree I earned over those wonderful years has served me well, allowing me to build a nice financial nest egg, to give to those less fortunate, and to provide for my family.

Hence, Aggieman.

Troy is my real name and I’m mostly interested in antique cars, so I chose “AntiqueTroy.” (My daughters would say that it’s also appropriate because of my age!) I love dogs and books, so my pic is an image of a dog reading a book.

Up to the age of around 25 I did street bmx, it was my all time favorite thing, riding down town doing rail slides, tail whips etc. near the end of my bmx days they built a skate park near me. Anyways there was a parts brand named demolition and I had spent a lot of money with said company and while trying to come up with a screen name for call of duty, demolition popped in my head, it’s morphed a bit here and there but mainly has stayed demolition or demo on pretty much all the sites I use. Not a real interesting story…. The picture is of a monster truck build I did a few years ago, because I like monster trucks, because I’m a dude and dudes like trucks that crush things and jump stuff. That’s it.

I was new to the internet forum culture when I joined, so I had a hard time coming up with a moniker. A shop owner/friend coined the nickname “Real” because I rejected any Gundam series/model kit that was not based on the Universal Century timeline and declared all other series as “fake”. Back in the 1980s some Japanese students nicknamed me “Mr. Gundam” in college because of my then new fascination with Gunpla. So, I shortened Mr. Real Gundam to just RealG.

The Minion is a toy I bought and is used as my current avatar because like them, I am an agent of chaos. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I use my first name and initial. My avatar is a picture of me with my youngest son when he was on sentry duty at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Ottawa back in 2015.

My screen name comes from my time in the Army when I was on jump status. A stick pusher is the last man out the door in a group of paratroopers, a stick, pushing out the rest ahead of him. I was usually in that position with my old unit, so I adopted that as my screen name for all sites and forums that I use, just contracting it to one word and removing the “c”. The photo is me “stick pushing”, exiting from a C-141 during a jump out at Edwards AFB long ago.

As for the profile name, I like to build “What If” type model subjects. The might have, could have, should have, or whatever you want to call them type of subjects that never went beyond the drawing board or were produced, but only in prototype form. Or I just like to build stuff from my imagination. I can’t stand building models straight from the box. I’ll always find some way to scratch build, kit bash, add different decals & paints, etc. to a model subject. This is why I am also a “Rebel”. Building the “same old, same old” Patton tank, F-16 fighter, Arizona battleship, etc., etc. is just too boring for me.
As for the profile avatar, nothing special about it. Though it does have a slight “wolf appearence” to it. Which is ok as I like wolves.

My nickname goes back over thirty years. Growing up, my grandmother taught me how to give back rubs and a form of massage. That set me up for the nickname. As a young man dating, I used what I had been taught to relax the young ladies that I dated. The Heart song came on while I was relaxing one of my dates and she tagged me with that as a nickname. A few years later, I was trying to come up with a user name for some site online. Magicman was taken, this spelling was not. I have used this nickname since 97 or 98.

Meester is my surname. And, I am a Mister. I figured the two words together has a nice ring to it. Kinda rolls off the tongue nicely. Not only that, but it’s me having a bit of fun with my own name. Meester. Yes, funny hey? I’ve heard my share of joking over the years. “Hey meester, you want to buy my seester? Only 20 pesos.” was an all time favourite taunt. So, again, me embracing it in a somewhat lighthearted way and owning it. BTW, it’s Dutch, not Mexican.

The avatar: I used to keep aquariums. When I progressed to reef aquariums I joined a couple of reef aquarium community boards. I also had a 35 year career with the Canadian Coast Guard. When it came time to choose an avatar for those communities I wanted something related to saltwater. I did a google search for an image using the term salty dog. So, the image I use is a crusty old sea salt, aka Salty Dog. I suppose I chose to use it here because my main scale model project upon joining here (and currently still is) the RMS Titanic. My handle on the aquarium boards was Johnny Reef_er (without the underscore. Discourse won’t allow me to post the correct word). Anyway, I was shocked that wasn’t already taken when I joined those boards.

Cheers,
Mark

That’s pretty good! BTW, your screen name reminds me of a business around here, Mr.Mister, which is in the business of… installing and maintaining mister systems.

I think my profile name speaks for itself. I have 4 amazing kids. My youngest is sitting on the floor “fixing” a toy lawnmower as I type this. The oldest is helping his mom make Christmas Eve dinner. The middle 2 are playing dolls and paw patrol. Good times!

My current profile picture is the B-25 bomber in the air force museum that’s part of the Doolittle raid exhibit (I think. I could have changed it and will likely change it again. Whatever it is will always be an aircraft I’ve photographed during a visit to the museum.

My user name is the same as I have been using since the early 00s. Ranger for one of my favorite classes to play in RPGs. Chris as my name is Chris. The 61 comes from when I created my Battle.net account way way back when it first launched as it was the lowest number combination available for Ranger_Chris.

My profile picture is one I found years ago, don’t remember where, and have just always used it.

I didn’t see that either. I thought it was a French word. :grimacing:
