we all have our favorites spitfires f4 phantoms etc…
how about somthing really different
what are the ones you dont like and would not build
myself it would be f111, vigilante, panther, cutlass, and the stealth aircraft
Frankly, I wouldn’t build Mustangs, Spitfires, Me-109s, F-14s, F-15s, or F-16s.
It’s not so much that I don’t like them as much as it is I’m just tired of seeing models of them all the time. They are all beautiful, fascinating subjects, and I’d love to see the actual aircraft, but I have no interest in building them myself.
Same thing with armor: there are so many Tigers, Panthers, Bradley’s and Abrams’s (how do you make “Abrams” plural?) done all the time, I’ve gotten desensitized to them.
I guess I’m just not much of a Top Forty modeller!
Not that there’s anything wrong with that! (Being a Top Forty modeller, that is) [;)]
I’d have to say the F-117 and B-2 are my least favorites. That’s not implying that they’re not incredible aircraft, they simply don’t appeal to me.
Airliners tend to have about the same appeal…blah…unless it’s old DC-3, DC-4, DC-6, or Connie…those are the exceptions to my blah rule.
Jeff
Add the F-22 to Jeff’s list and that’s pretty much my opinion as well. [xx(]
I guess maybe I should add in the F-35 as well…although the F-22 at least has some curves to it…I’m on the fence with that one…

[yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck][yuck]
Fairey Battle…just a dog, if the plane was as brave and valiant as thier crews in the Battle of France it may not be on this list.
Polikarpov 16 (the Rata)…the Jabba the Hut of the aircraft world…
The “Gutless” Cutlass…enough said…
The stealth aircraft…like modern day auto’s they lack a certain physical/appearance “character” Like the gluttonous fish mouth effect of a P40 or the down right sexy contours of the P51D and the big shoulders of the Thud…
Ov-something Mohawk…take part bus part plane part helicopter place in bag shake and VIOLA…ugly airplane!
Just my opnion, no attempt to flame any one type…
ENGLISH ELECTRIC LIGHTNING! Looks like a MiG-21 swallowed an extra engine and forgot to diet!
LOL…OV-1 Mohawk!
To be honest, I’m not much of a jet fan at all. There are, of course, exceptions. (F-104 and 105)
I’ll probably get flamed for this, but I just don’t like the looks of an A-4 Skyhawk. The lines of the airplane just look a little wimpy to me as opposed to the macho, bad ****** looks of a Phantom. I guess that’s why they call it the scooter. Don’t get me wrong, I know that liitle plane could pack a punch, but I guess it’s that fuselage hump that bothers me.
Dragonfly
i agree with you dragonfly, the skyhawk isnt a very appealing aircraft to me. also the mohawk is pretty ugly.
I’m with you guys on the Stealth! Just not an interesting-looking plane. The monochrome black is boring (but I guess flourescent orange wouldn’t be appropriate here).
I’ve never been one for the Mirage. Just don’t like its lines. But: there’s nothing I wouldn’t model if the price is right.

WHOOOOSH !!!
What was that!!! My flame throwing A4 waxing your fanny!!!..Only joking…I was seriously considering the A4 as well…you’re right “Scooter”…sounds like a Power Puff Girl or Scooby Doo throw away…but then again a carrier launched strike aircraft that is nuke capable and can also turn and burn with most front line fighters…the hump is just character…sort of like Jimmy Durante’s nose…
The F4F Wildcat is pretty ugly in my opinion. It’s Stubby. The wings seem stubby and the fuselage seems stubby. It’s just Stubby and plain.
I would have to say the F-22, F-117, B-2, OV-10, like many others here.
I have to add the F4F Wildcat to the list as well. Something about the landing gear makes it look like a plane that hasn’t grown up yet, to me.

Pretty much any F of A designation aircraft after aboyt 1960 and WWII German planes are not my cup of tea. Love the early jets, though!
Brian
I really don’t like to model modern jets but thats not really what this question was, for ugly common ww2 aircraft, I really don’t like the Seversky P-35 or Brewster Buffalo or the Armstrong Whitworth Whitley (hope I’m not provoking anyone there [B)]) But yet I do like the Wildcat and don’t mind the Fairey Battle, contrary to some here. Oh well, to each his own…[:D] There were a lot of ugly aircraft in ww2 but most were fringe aircraft and not used or seen much.
In common with a number of posters here, modern US fighters (post 1960s) just don’t appeal to me at all! I think it’s mainly the paint/colour schemes (or lack of them). I’ve heard the term “BGAs” (Boring Grey Aeroplanes) used in one modelling magazine, which more or less sums up my feelings about them!
Absolutely no offence meant to anyone who is a fan of these aircraft, though!
On the other hand, I like the futuristic appearance of the F-22, F-117, B-1 and B-2, and also quite like the Tornado and Jaguar, maybe partly subconsciously because they’re European/British but mainly because they actually have an interesting variety of colour and camo schemes!
Similarly, I’m a fan of Cold War-era (50s to 70s) jets, whether European or US - the Phantom and F-111 are probably my favourite US types, along with the delta-wing “Century” series.
WW2 and earlier subjects are certainly my main area of interest however, so I don’t actually have many jets of any type in my collection.
I partly agree with J-Hulk in being less interested in the more common subjects such as the P-51, Spitfire and Bf109, but I still build models of these aircraft - they’re still interesting, have plenty of potential for different colour schemes and versions, and are such important subjects historically that any “representative” collection of WW2 aircraft models ought to have at least one.
I don’t feel quite the same way about the more common military vehicle subjects - though my main interest is probably in the more obscure/unusual subjects, such as French, Italian and Polish vehicles, or early-war British vehicles, I’m still happy to build Tigers, T-34s, Shermans and Panthers! I even bought a Panther kit a few days ago (Italeri’s 1/35 Ausf. A with zimmerit).
The only AFV subject I don’t have much enthusiasm for is modern MBTs, which somehow all seem very similar-looking. Lighter vehicles such as IFVS, APCs and armoured cars have a much greater variety of appearance.
Yeah… add the Boeing X-32 to the list…
The XF-32 is really ugly. I would just make one to place side to side with my XF-35…
And ad all the WWI planes to it…
The only a/c I really like are modern Russian jets and WWII RAF planes…
Cheers,
Jürgen
the ugliest plane its the U2, its just so anorexic
then the Thunderchief and A4 Skyhawk
