New tires are a semi gloss color. Use gloss black, mix some flat dark gray to get the color you need. As tires get used, they turn a different color. Just add more gray to black to get the different shades. If you can find Panzer Gray, you can start with that and add lighter shades of gray to show the different colors. Remember, as tires get used, the tread will also wear, so sand down the tread.
I like to use mix of flat black and Testor’s Rubber, in the tiny bottles, about 60 to 75% black. Then I rub my thumb and 1st 2 fingers on a white chalk pastel and rub the tire as I spin it mounted on a toohpick. And I gt this…

Nice tips guys. I use Polly Scale “Grimey Black” to paint my tires. Takes a couple coats but looks similar to Marc’s method.

Not sure of the company, but I have a bottle of something called “Tire Black”. It’s more gray looking than flat black, but not much. Since I’m lazy and try to avoid mixing colrs whenever possible, I’ve been using that.
JUst checked on my bench - it’s made by a comapny called “Aqueous Hobby Color”, picked it up at my LHS.
