Diamond Gaz and FrogFoot: If you’ve got an un-started P-47, you’re more than welcome to join!
From my front, I stripped the paint off my Academy 1/72 razorback, and decided to re-do the finish (now that I know how to use Future and a proper wash). I’ve also got the RM 1/72 in the stash ready to go. Now all I need to do is figure out how I want to paint them! I’m thinking the standard green/grey for the razorback, and some sort of camo for the bubbletop. Maybe even a british scheme. I’ve got a set of French markings (for the P-47) and other decal sets (all 1/72) if anyone is willing to trade. I’m looking for a basic T-bolt layout.
Joshua
P.S. The badge will be ready after New Years, but before school starts back.
Well I made it to Florida, drug about half my bench with me, and got started on the wheel wells. The Aires resin parts are a huge improvement over the kit parts, however, you must sand them very thin, to the point where you can almost see thru the part to get it to fit in the wing. I’m also going to use the True Details CP, another major improvement. Unfortunately, I can’t post pics until I get back home. Can’t wait to see some progress pics from you guys.
Hi gang, I should get some workshop time this week, so hopefully I’ll be able to finish the engine and cockpit. Looking at all the detail parts that I have on my bench, I don’t think that I’ll finish this one anytime soon. At I should be making some steady progress though. I’ll post pics as the jobs get done. Darren.
Haven’t started yet, studied the directions and planned my build except for final colors and markings. I’m still a little up in the air about those and need to find the appropriate figure for my nose art. Spent time yesterday and today finishing up my build for another GB. Hope to start tomorrow, will be OOB exceot for PE seat belts.
EDIT: can’t find my instructions for Eduards seatbelts USAF and USN WWII no 49 001, antbody have it that could scan it in and e-mail it to me Thanks
I think if you go to the eduard site www.eduard.cz and search for your specific pe set, you can download the directions in .pdf format. I usually do this when trying to decide if a set is worth buying.
I think this is the specific link you need for those directions…
I thought I could finish my ‘warm-up’ 1/72 p-47 before the start date, but haven’t quite got there. I finished putting on all the decals the other day and hope to put another round of future on in prep for a wash. It was the tamiya 1/72 razorback and was a very fun kit to build. My only complaint is the way they did the propeller, I am having a little trouble getting rid of the seam…oh well. It’s a challenge. I hope to be done within the week and will post pictures at that point.
And then on to it’s big brother…tamiya 1/48 razorback. [:)] Very excited…
I made a little progress today. The True details CP is very nice and a welcome upgrade from the kit pit. It should fall into the fuse. with little difficulty. That’s the good news. This is no Tamiya kit!! There’s 2 nasty gaps with the lower wing-fuselage joint that’s going to be a joy correcting. Also, there are two deep sinks on the cowl that will need to be filled. Hopefully, with the AM parts, this kit will build up to something that doesn’t look too bad. After building both Tamiya Jugs, this kit is dissapointing. Oh well, I only paid 3 bucks for it. Will check in later.
I have not forgotten about this GB. The Fw for the BOG GB is turning into a project and a half. The next few GB’s I am in I will be joining well “in progress” I am sure.
Still going to do Tarheel Hal for this one. There are some discrepancies between what it apparley looked like and the current “flying” one. Since I can find lots and lots of pics of the modern one I will being doing that one so at least I iwll be as accurate to that real a/c if not the original.
I had a nice day in the workshop today and got to grips with my razorback. I’ve waited since before the holidays to get stuck in to this one! I finished the engine and the cockpit as well as fitting the fuselage cooling ducts. The 3 sheet Eduard detail set is great, but I have struggled with the carpet monster as many of the tiny parts have “pinged” during the assembly process. Here’s some pics of what I got done today.
Great start Darren…the IP is awesome. Can’t wait to see more. I’ve finished my CP but can’t post pics cause I’m on the road using a buddy’s lap top that doesn’t have the right soft ware.
Thanks Jerry, I’m trying to make this build a good one so I’m taking my time with it and I bought the Osprey P-47 build guide which has come in handy for pics of the details. Next up will be putting the fuselage and wings together, there is some lovely engraved detail on this Tamiya kit, so I will be careful not to lose any when cleaning up the seams. See you later, Darren.
