Any nationality P-47? I am planning on building a 201st squadron (Mexican Squadron that flew with the US in the Pacific in WWII) P-47 down the road a bit and wouldn’t mind participating if time permits. If it doesn’t I might just buy another one just for this GB. (I am building it for a local elementary library so might start it earlier, but could do another one for another school near here and it would fit in the GB time limits)
Cool Joshua… thanks! I will try to fit this in… if nothing else I will post a ‘non-participating’ pic of the finished build because it looks different to see it in other nations markings… I’ll post some info on the 201st squadron later too… interesting read, almost like the Tuskegee airmen of the P-47’s
Tom, I can’t believe that you would take my idea![:p][;)] Seriously, I saw this and, since I had bought an 1/48 Arii Thunderbolt to put the FAM decals on, figured what the heck!! LOL Twisted great minds think alike, I guess![:D] Maybe I could do something else, like a Phillipines Air Force P-47 or something like that![8D]
Gilmund, have you built one of those models before? I recently built an Academy 1/72 razorback, and I think it’s the best fitting and looking model I’ve built so far. I’ve been wondering how the Hasegawa models compare. From what I’ve read, Tamiya 1/72 Jugs are really good, but they they also cost about twice as much.
This is my first P-47 and I´ve got the Hasegawa only. It´s been awile since I looked in the box, so I can´t remember if it looks OK. I will take a look tomorrow. Thanks for the tip on the Academy, I´ll concider that aswell.
I’ll join in with a Tamiya 1/48 Bubbletop, probably done up in a SEAC scheme. However, I will admit that although I am pretty sure the end result should have a flat floor, I am going to go with the corrugated one that comes with the Tamiya kit. Hope that is ok.
Right now I am about 1/2 through a 1/72 tamiya razorback. You are right they are more costly, but it has been a completely enjoyable experience. The fit is great and the detail is excellent. I usually do 1/48, but if all 1/72 kits were this nice, I would strongly think about changing.
I have also heard good things about the 1/72 revell thunderbolts, but have yet to find one on the hobby shop shelves to check it out.
Clavin - no prob, I found some good shots of the escuadron 201 birds on an all spanish site… I could do the nose art and numbers in the decal maker thing and we both do a 201 P-47. I was wanting to do the one without the fillet on the stabilizer anyway and the Aztec decal sheet is for the one WITH the fillet.
here’s a link to the story on them: (for those who don’t know who they are)
Cool! I have some thick styrene sheet that I could use for the fillet. Along with some Green Putty![:p] I have an Academy Bubbletop set aside for that scheme! I picked up the Arii kit b4 I realized it was supposed to be a Bubbletop![:o)] LOL That’s OK! I only paid about 600 yen for it anyway![:D]
Joshua, please put me down for a FAM and a PAAC P-47D!
[#welcome] newtothegame! I have heard good things about the Revell 1/72 P-47’s as well. I’m a little weary though, b/c I’m building a Revell 1/72 B-26 that has a lot of fit issues and raised detail. I might pick up a Revell Thunderbolt model just for shits and giggles, they’re only about $8.50 at the LHS
Iodni_k: I don’t think you’re crazy, I’ll probabily do two too.
tho990: so are you in this GB, or are you just going to sit back and watch?[:p]
I may jump into this GB later… I cannot commit now. But since this is a place where a lot of “Jug heads” will likely gather… I will ask a question and offer what is below as gratitude. I already post in the decal section… but is there a set of marking in 1/48 for ‘TARHEEL HAL”?
And if some can tell me how to give acess to an album in Photobucket to a guest of walk around I did at a recent air show… i will be happy to share thjose too.
Marc - in photobucket go to Account options, it should be on the blue bar at the top of the page when you log in. When you get there look for “Account options” about halfway down the page. Make sure the “Make Public” line is checked yes, then just post us the URL of your album and we can see it without having to log in! (but we can’t add or delete from it, kinda like a guest mode just so you know)
