I’m quite impressed with your project Rkik. I’d love to see progress pics as you model along!
My old Heller P-47N came in from E-bay. I took a look at the kit, and I am quite impressed. The detail is quite sharp, although all the rivets and panel lines are raised, rather than recessed. Normally I prime the model and sand it down, but I don’t want to do that in this case. When you guys have raised pannel lines, what do you do to get a nice finish without sanding all the detail away?
I have the camo on my “practice” Tbolt. I used silly putty for a soft edge. I’m still learning how to use my AB, but I think I’m getting better. After another model or two I want to try a NMF. Here are a few pics:
Ok Joshua… I’m in too. May not be able to start the project right on the start date but it will be next up in the rotation for sure. A Hasegawa 1/48 bubble top. It will be my 1st ever jug and first ever NMF (darn… my knees are shakin’ already[xx(])
It’s a long way to that point but I iwll be asking for LOTS of advise[:)]
Just received the full Aires detail set for my Hasa 1/48th Jug. I Cannot believe the amount of resin! I am going to need each minute and hour in this build. So everything is now ready and in place for the big day…
Hey guys, I need some help with the instruction for the aeromaster set 72-008 Pacific P-47D, I lost it, if somebody can send a copy via e-mail I will apreciate it. In advance Thanks.
This GB is still open to anyone wishing to join. We won’t be starting till the first of the year.
Here are a few personal progress pics on my practice plane. This is a Revell 1/72 model. I saw another at the LHS, and almost picked it up, because I really like this kit. Soon I’ll future it, and that’ll be a first for me.
I had some issues with the black of the D-day stripes. I wanted a nice sharp line, but that didn’t happen. I think next time I’ll AB the black, and not paint it on. I can always point to WWII pics of D-day stripes and say “see! those aren’t perfect either!”
Looks great Joshua. How is the fit on that revell kit? I am doing a ‘practice’ run too, but am no where near as far as you. Mine is a tamiya 1/72 and may / may not be complete in time to actually start the ‘real’ build.
Leon
Thanks Leon! I was very apprehensive when I bought the kit b/c I was (and still am) working on a horrible Revell 1/72 B-26. This P-47 kit is very, very nice though. I’ve been throughly impressed. I like the fact that the cowl has open doors, unlike most models. So far it’s gone together very nicely. This kit is so nice that I almost bought the rebox yesterday (same kit, different decals). I have a Heller 1/72 P-47N in my stash, so I think I’ll hold off for right now. The Revell kit rivals Academy’s 1/72 Razorback, both are pretty sharp looking.
TANGO1: If I remember correctly, you built a Hun Hunter model? Who did you get the decals from, and do you know if they happen to have Hun Hunter decals for 1/72 scale?
Greetings:
Got the kit, Hasegawa D model
Got the decals; “Tarheel Hal”
Can’t find the paint numbers! I know, somewhere out there, somebody has found the correct orange and yellow for this plane! It is not a true “dayglo” orange, but a shading and the yellow is closer to a Flanker yellow that insignia yellow. Anybody?
BTW, is it to late to join??
Thanks!!!
We should probably share info as best we can as I am planning the same marking. The start date is off a bit so I iwll not be starting and research yet but as I ome acroos any pics, facts etc I will send 'em your way.
Welcome to the build IILeone! It’s not too late at all, we’re not starting until the first of the year, most of us are up to our heads in GB’s already.
I am interested in throwing my lot in here. If I can just remember that I threw it in!![:-^] I have the Tamiya 1/72 bubble top that needs to be built. I have been working with a group of boys on a plane project. Two of them are P-47s. The link is: http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=50274
Hey Wing_Nut:
Deal on the research. Still trying to track down the colors, I have a pretty good idea on the marking placements. BTW, there is an awesome set of decals you can get. Lifelike Decals, and they are available from Flightdecs. http://flightdecs.ca The price is $12.50US and they are great people.
This will be great motivation for me to get this one going. Long time I have wanted to do this plane.
Jug-junkie had a set of Super Scale decals he wasn’t going to use and sent them to me from South Africa… Thanks again Geoff!!! So I am good there.
The pics below are what I have seen so far… a few of these coming from another FSM member at a recent Houston airshow… thanks Eddie Miller!!!
I went to the Intrepid in NYC not too long ago and bought a poster with 20 or so WWII planes on it and the P-47 is Tarheel Hal. I thought it was a cool scheme and Geoff hooked me up with the decals. Thanks Geoff… oh I said that already but what the heck
Have not looked into the orange thing as you have described. From what I have seen so far it reminds me of an orange I used on car model when I was maybe 13 or 14 years old from a rattle can. Trust me that was a loooooong time ago.
Hey Wing_nut
Looked at the photos carefully there. I’m not positive they got it right. The research I have thus far shows no invasion stripes. Also, the tailwheel doors are the same yellow as the cowling. Not positive but the main gear doors are possibly white, still checking into that. Prop is the paddle blade version. That’s what I know for now. I think the color thing will keep us busy for awhile. Glad I have alot of work to do before I worry about paint!
Il Leone
See we are helping each other already [:)] I beleie you to be correct. The sheet with teh deacls doe snot show invasion stripes, has the ornage comeing stright down right in front of the horizntal stabs. It also has the front of the cowl and the prop hub as organe. So looks like we are finding some differences.
jlwilliams: I like the project you’re working on, sounds like fun. Are you just going to keep us posted, or are you going to join in the build as well.
From my front, I bought another Revell 1/72 bubbletop. I also recently finished future-ing my first “practice” t-bolt. It was my first time ever using future, and I had partial success. I’m looking foward to seeing how well the decals go on. I’m debating if I want to build the Heller P-47N when the build starts, or just mount the wings onto the Revell T-bolt. Opinions?
The build dosn’t start for another 2 months guys, so we’ve got plenty of time to find paint schemes and decals.
Jabbe:
I am planning on building the Tamiya 1/72 bubbletop. I have not decided on the scheme yet. I generally build out of the box, but I am looking at the Reno races for ideas.
