Should be fun. You can do a lot with it with painting and weathering. It’ll display nice next to your others.
I said I wasn’t going to do it… however couldn’t pass these two up today at my local hobby store. I only went in to buy 1 paint colour and next minute ![]()
The amphibious tank looks interesting!
You’re getting some old gems there!
I built that Tiger as my first armor build a few years back — Tamiya Tiger I - Early (old kit)
I’ll be curious if you find the plastic doesn’t like to melt with standard Tamiya cement, like I did. Other than that, it was a fun build!
Wow, that was your first armor kit?? Great paint job.
I built this kit many years ago like the pictures I saw in, How to build Dioramas by Sheperd Paine, page 28. It was of the 1/25 scale version of the Tamiya kit. It didn’t turn out nearly as good, thus the lack of pictures uploaded here ![]()
Ha, thanks – I just followed that Panzermeister YouTube video as closely as I could – the oil paints were the real game changer.
As for latest acquisitions… this week marked the end of a month-long fiasco with an order from Super-Hobby in Poland. The fiasco wasn’t their fault at all, and I have ordered from them many times, but not recently, not since the confusing, ever-changing tariff/import situation on our end. I spent two long phone calls with a FedEx import hub in Georgia trying to convince them that what was in the package was “model kits” – but the FedEx employees, not having a strong mastery of English, kept asking me the value of each individual part in the boxes.
It took some research on my end to find the right “keywords” to use in the US Code to email them a spreadsheet with what each invoice line item was, what it was made of, what it was for, and what it was worth. The package then sat in “cleared customs” status for several days before finally hitting the road and being delivered. Oh, and then a couple days later, I got a text with a link from FedEx (not suspicious at all, right?) to pay the actual tariff.
But what can I do? Super-Hobby has the good stuff.
Ah the KING TIGER! remember that version from the 70’s and 80’s!
Update on my 3D Print fail from FC Model Trend ordered via Super Hobby (https://www.super-hobby.com/)
Super Hobby were immediately responsive to my concerns, but advised that they didn’t have a replacement part in stock. They would have to order this from FC Model Trend. It’s taken 2 months on FC Model Trend’s side, but I was finally advised by Super-Hobby that the part had arrived at their warehouse.
In the meantime, they’ve asked if there’s anything else I’d like to add to the order while they ship it out. Obviously I’ve had to pay for the additional items and any difference on the shipping, but how good is that?
I thoroughly recommend Super Hobby (https://www.super-hobby.com/), who operate out of Poland. They have an excellent and cost-effective range of complete kits and aftermarket upgrades.
A few years ago I bought another Monogram B-58 Hustler in 48th scale, but the decals were not in great shape. Probably usable with certain precautions. But I received an e-mail from Caracal Decals, who were releasing this set for the kit, I could not resist.
I have no idea when I’ll get to this build. My previous build of this kit currently hangs from the ceiling in my workshop, but this one is going to be wheels down and will go on a bedroom wall in the house, right above the Stan Stokes print I have of the Hustler.
@Aggieman I’ve got several sets of those Caracal decals in my stash, waiting for kits. They cover such cool subjects (ANG too!) and even just the packaging is cool.
@pr154 I was just talking about Super Hobby a couple posts earlier. I too love them. The recent issues importing stuff into the U.S. has me feeling like what most of you foreigners must always feel like ordering stuff FROM here. And to restate: my issue was NOT the fault of Super Hobby, but rather our stupid and fluid tariffs/customs regulations, and to a lesser extent, FedEx, who’s trying to cover their butt while making some extra money.
For me the decision to not buy from an American supplier has nothing to do with my feelings on the current administration and tariff practises, but everything to do with the way default USPS shipping rates apply to goods being shipped to Australia. It’s not unusual for the shipping on an item to be twice the value of the item, and many retailers simply don’t have an alternative option available.
If it were an item that could only be sourced from the USA I might try my luck with a remailer (basically I’d ship to a US address, and the remailer negotiates a better deal with USPS/Others for the leg to Australia). If the shipping costs out of other countries is civilised by default though, why bother jumping through extra hoops just to get packages that smell like Freedom?
I just received a Pocher K76 Bugatti 50T, still factory sealed.
Brady at Scaleautoworks just purchased a large lot of old Pochers and had the Bugatti for sale at a great price.
I have a B-58 in the build queue! I’ll order those up. Thanks for the heads up.
Trying to restrain myself from buying kits and stick to my rule: build 3 buy 1… but I’ve been wanting this one and couldn’t pass up on the price

And it is a great kit. Fit is superb.
