Old AMT 1/650 USS Enterprise - TOS *Completed*

Fantastic work going on here! Keep it up. Im really looking foward to seeing you complete this! Then I can start my 1989 rebox haha

Cheers,

Josh

She’s lookin’ good! Great to see you making progress on her.

I think the deflector dish is a little oversize anyway so hopefully sanding her down a little shouldn’t hurt.

Here we go! Almost done… witht he painting! [:P] Some paint touch ups needed due to the tape pulling up the Vallejo paint I am using. Repairs tot he nacelle and pylon look good, hopefully the paint will be able to cover the cracks. The deflector is still being worked on. It didn’t melt too bad and with the need to sand it smooth I only lost the ring details on the inside. the support strut may need to shortened, but I am looking into that.

She’s coming along nicely!!! [Y]

HOME STRETCH HERE WE COME! Just waiting on my decals that I ordered plus some minor touch ups. This one is almost done. Better pictures when I complete this build.

Oh yeah, almost there now! Nice work!!!

Happiness is when the decals you ordered have arrived! [:D] I will be able to complete this build soon.

Hoorah!!! Big improvement over the kit decals too!

[:P] To be fair, I think the kit is so old that it didn’t even come with decals, just stickers.

Thanks for sharing the build process. There are surreal moments when looking at it and I see show scenes superimposed upon it. Some great work there!

Out of curiousity what methods did you use to repair the areas where the paint peeled off? Whatever you did, the end result looked great.

I am eagerly awaiting pictures of the finished model.

Was able to put in some work on applying the decals. Most of them has been added, just one side of the secondary hull plus some smaller numbered decals that need to be added. After that then I will seal it with Future and the spray some matte finish and call it done.

Still not happy with the corrections to the pylons that needed some fixes that I couldn’t even out. migth build this model again if the newer releases have better decals.

Nice work…and kudos for your persistence!

It’s a silly thought…but considering the problems everyone who’s ever built one of these models has had with those pylons, one can’t help but imagine the ‘real’ ship flying to pieces every time Scotty fired up the impulse engines.

Must be very humiliating, in front of the Klingons… [:$]

Well to be fair, Scotty was a mircale worker. That would explain so much in regards to this kit! [:P]

Oh that looks good! The decals look perfect!

Not sure what you can do about the pylons though…

Decalling is done, just need to seal everything and I will call it done. As for the pylons, I am just going to have to call it a wash and a learning expereince. If I build this one again, I at least know what to expect and will use something stronger for glueing the pylons to the secondary hull.

Any pics of the finished model?

Looking forward to seeing what’s next on the Defiant.

…and I shall call this one done! Between the melting plastic and the paint not wanting to stick to 50 year old plastic, this has been a fun and very interesting build. I would even try it again… as long as it’s the 50th anniversary version which I hope is made with better plastic then whatw as used in 1968. Now off to the Defiant!

This shot of the enterprise was probably in every show and your model captured it beautifully.

Kudos to you for sticking it out with a challenging build and thanks so much for sharing!
