Official Ho229 Group Build

Well, are you interested in a Horton 229 flying wing GB or not? Please explain your answer…

Not…

I don’t really do much in the way of prototype or non-operational or concept Luftwaffe birds, or any “Luftwaffe '46” stuff… Did the Do 335, but that had three important things going for it… It was a 1/48th Monogram kit, it was under 10.00 (when I bought it in 1978), and there was a Shep Paine diorama tip sheet in the box…

Unless…

There’s a kit of it in 1/48th at or under 20.00… Then I might, just for the halibut… Is there such an animal? The 229 kit, not the fish…

No.

Because Luft 46 stuff blows.

No thank you…it’s only got one wing and no rigging.

Yeah, you’re right…fortunately the 229 is Luft '45 stuff and it doesn’t blow…it actually flew…

ayuh… I would be… flying wingy things are up my alley…

I got enough 1/72 Y/XB-35’s to build both versions, and also the XB-49.so… adding a Horton 229… sure…!

I would cause you just gotta be in it…

Cept I dont have one in the stash and dont plan on adding one soon, closest I have is Me P1099 1946 type thing.

Andrew

Well for all you pansies sitting on the fence or whining because you “don’t have one in the stash”—boo hoo!—here’s some cool pics that might motivate you babies:

Right before the incident with the fruit tree:

Cool build-up using Dragon kit…

Coincidence? I think not!

I am definately game!

The 229 does indeed blow (your shiny B17 out of the sky in one pass…)[whstl]

If i can get Vetteman going on this we could both build our Dragon offerings for this GB. But thats up to him ofcourse. Count me in

Richard

Somone has already proposed a Stealth GB and it might be better to do 229’s as part of that. And IMHO there are not enough variations of the 229 to justify its own GB.

I thought 229 was its own justification?

Andrew

It appears that Dragon has a 1/48th scale offering of the Ho 229, however it rings up at around 60-70.00 if you can aquire it (the websites I found listing the kit are sold out… Now whether that’s because it’s OOP or just that big a seller, I don’t know)… So I gotta say, “not no, but hell no…”…

It’s a jet… It blows AND sucks…

Still, not enough time to die laughing!!!

Isn’t Dragon re issuing the 229 under the Orange box (discount) label line?

Dunno… Would that particular kit-line put the price in line with my generous price-range limits I wonder?

My mistake, it was the Volkksjager kit. Most of the Orangebox kits are more reasonably priced. Their Ju-88 w/groundcrew was under $30 IIRC.

I have just found a couple of UK sites with this in stock for around the £30 to £35 mark.

Now, is anyone going to do it in 1/32nd scale i wounder.

£30 to £35… That’s a ballpark figure of around 70-80 US Dollars, right Bish?

No, i would guess more around 45 to 50 US, its about 1.60 ish to the pound. But then you have to add postage, and that price would include VAT which would be taken off for you, thats 17.5%. It’s still probably not cheap by normal US standards, i can usually get kits from sprue brothers for less than i can get them here, thats including postage from the US. But for anyone who is happy to pay it and really wants one, might be an idea.

Ah… 1.60 US to the Pound… Got it… Thanks, Pard…

Still puts it way outta my range though… I’ll keep looking though, since the aircraft would still likely have a place in my “Weird German Aircraft in Blown Up Hangars-April '45” dioramas. I sometimes get lucky and a kit falls into my lap way under retail… (Like that $18.00 Tamiya He 219 I scored, lol…)
