Nightfighters

Mike - sounds good! that would lend a bit if “permanency” to it… here once the thread is off the first two pages it’s as good as gone…

Well if we can round up a few folks I guess we’re a go. I guess we need to determine the ground rules and dates for the build. I’m thinking night fighters gave way to more modern all weather aircraft by the late 50’s so maybe the end of the Korean War would be a good cutoff. Perhaps a 1 Sept. kickoff and a June '06 wrap up (in light of all the GB’s in progress). What do you think?

Those dates are fine with me. I got a He 219 ready to be built.

Hi I have been doing mostly auto for years. for some reason I find myself wanting to build airplanes. been working on my aircraft knowledge andhave started some spitfires and others. please if you could list some planes that are night fighters. And also I think it was stated before post korea, is this correct? sorry that I am not a aircraft junky yet but the way I am going it wont be long.

Kevin

Kevin - yes they were used pre-Korea… in fact in researching a squadron that flew in the Battle of Britain, I found out they honed their night fighter tactics in WWI flying Sopwith Camels over enemy airfields at night waiting for one to take off… If I find the web page I will post it to you…

WWII was prolific with night fighters, hurricanes, spitfires, boulton-paul defiants, Bf110’s, Ju88’s, P-61’s etc… etc… etc… if you want to know more or more modern aircraft let us know! We can list 100’s I am sure, especially during and after WWII.

What era are YOU interested in modeling? that may help us list a few…

this GB interested me. but the rule i think stated that this build could be any night fighter that would not surpass the korean war so I will do a little research and see whats up.
tho9900 thanks for the info. it is much welcome.

I shall have a model in mind by tomorrow

Kevin

Kevin - cool! I just saw the suggestion for that after you posted that… looking forward to seeing what you pick!

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a356/platinumhw/nfslogo.jpg this could be part of a cool badge for this GB. SOMETHING TO LOOK AT

boogiebear and tho9900 I have found my kit[:D] It will be the famed P61 black widow. It will be an awsome build. Can’t wait to get this started. let me know what you think.

Kevin

Hey all, this is a very interesting GB idea. I’m suprised that no-one has yet mentioned the F4U-5N Corsair nightfighter. I should have one coming in the mail today from spruebros. Man that thing just looks mean when it is wearing the USMC flat black paint job, red markings, and 5-inch rockets! I’d love to join you all in this, but I have way too much on my plate with already-started builds and college fall semester coming up. Good luck and post some pictures!

Lets kick it up a lot. sept 1 is perfect Now the biggest question is what kit to build the p61. Who do you think has the best kit out there? and if there is an AM pit for it , or I might just go at a scratch built pit[X-)] but that is why we all go into our planning stages.

Kevin

Yep sept 1st is a good start date for me, and just as a reminder to you all I’ll be building Italeris 1/72 bf110G with probably a new scratchbuilt cockpit and some super detailing in the wheel wells etc!

Hey stuka why a 1/72 insead of a 1/48 would it not be easyer to do the scratch built pit?
I am very much a rookie when it comes ti aircraft, and the p61 widow should be big and more fun to airbrush and get down and dirty by putting in hydraulic lines and wiring. sinse you are quite well versed on 1/72 scale I would like to hear from you. I always like to learn and sinse I am now hooked on aircraft, I can use all the help I can get.

Kevin

found this build all the way on page 3. need to move it up.So if i coud get info from someone who has built a p61, what is the best kit out there and has the best detail.

Kevin

So, I take it we have a GB here? The time frame sounds great and I have three possible choices for it. I have the Monogram 1/72 F-82F Twin Mustang w/ Superscale decals for the 52AWG at Mitchell AFB in 1948; the Hasegawa 1/48 F4U-5N w/ CAM decals for VMF(N)-513; and the Monogram 1/48 P-61.

wow they sound great, cant wait to get started.

Kevin

Hello what is up no one is posting anythig here. no ideas or what they will build or even the badge. I threw out an idea there are others. lets all speak up and have some fun. sept 1 is comming fast and I am personally trying to get all the stuff together so it will be a smooth build and a great aircraft.[:D]

Kevin

bstrump,
I too have the Hasegawa F4U-5N…is there a noticible difference between the kit decals and CAM decals? (VMFN-513)

Ooops! I was slightly mistaken about the kit. The kit I have is not the Hasegawa kit per se but the Revellogram ProModeler re-boxing of that kit.

I built the Revell-Monogram 1/48 scale kit several years ago. It was a fairly decent kit, but it could use a little detailing work. (don’t all kits, though?)
