Name that plane...

Your a new pilot in WW1, WW2, Korea, Vietnam or thereafter. You want to name your plane. Whats it going to be? Your wife, girlfriend, your pet, something else?

Use your imagination, dont lock yourself to the time period. You can use something from today and name your WW1 aircraft that. If you want tell us why. Like naming your F4 Phantom - Phantom Menace ecause you like Star Wars.

I would name my F4U Shannons Roar or Shannons Shrill.

Named after my 16 month old daughter. She can be loud at times!

So name the plane and name the plane!

“Dangerous Dane” on one side and “Mitchell’s Menace” on the other side after my two grandsons on the rudders of my SR-71.

Darwin, O.F. [alien]

“Above”.

Therefore, it will be true when they say I’m raining death from “Above”.

I could probably think up a bunch more, better than this one, but it would all be in the same vein of really bad puns. I guess I could spare you any more.

Actually did this some time ago…

My Mustang, “Hunky Dorri”… Wife’s name.

Th’ other one:

Did one for my best friend as well, and his wife, Lisa:

Geez Hans naming P-51’s after your wife; didn’t know that many still existed! Mustangs, that is…

My favorite Mustang name is Upupa epops

I’d name my A-10 ground attack aircraft Miss Billi 5.

My father-in-law owned Miss Billi 1,2 and 3 in WW2. Beaufighter (ground looped and destroyed); Beaufighter (didn’t return from a mission); P-61 (survived the war).

Miss Billi 4 is a van conversion camper that goes to Reno every September and no I am not invited although he loves me, “can’t have kids runnin’ around my ankles while I chew the fat”. I’m 53.

I’m married to Miss Billi 5, I guess.

If I was a fighter pilot and had my own plane I would copy this P-51 nose art from WWII.

It has a pair of dice being rolled with the words “chute” as in chuting dice next to the dice. Then after it “Your faded” which is a dice term that basicly means you lost on that roll. I always though it was a cool way of saying I got ya! I seriously thought about having put on the rear spoiler of my Camaro because I have a freind that does freehand lettering and stripping and he said he would do it for free but i never brought the car over to his shop to get it done.

No, Crush. Painted backwards on the front edge of the hood of a Caddie Cimarron in bronze, the one with the saddle vinyl roof and the rusted wheel wells, on the Jersey Turnpike; dude reads it in the rear view.Gotta be on their 6 in style.

We can’t all own Camaros. I owned a clapped out little BMW 1600 that had the plates FW 190. Nobody understood.

My other favorite would be “Shadoobie”, hats off to Mick.

So many dames so many planes…[:P] Mmm lets see here… My P-38 main name would be “The Liltin Miss Tilton” Each nacelle would have a name… One would have Amy J and the other Kay

Now for my P-51, I would have to go with a good family friends mount which he flew in WWII… Maj Ricjard “Dick” Hewitt

As for the modern stuff… I’ll have to get back to ya!!

Flaps up,

Mike

Rangers Lead The Way

Well Bondo I have a Bimmer to except I would not consider it clapped out. It is more like pimped out.

Then there is the classic American muscle that I love so much!

And no I would not be caught dead in a Cadillac Cimarron!

I think I have heard of something close to the Shayoobie except it is spelled “Shabootie” as in it ain’t your beauty its your bootie!

Don’t you know the crime rate’s goin’ up, up, up To live in this town you must be tough, tough, tough You got rats on the west side, bed bugs uptown What a mess? This town’s in tatters, I’ve been shattered My brain’s been battered, splattered all over Manhattan Shadoobie, shattered, shattered What say? Shadoobie, shattered Shadoobie, shattered Shadoobie, shattered

Heh… That there was funny… That’s th’ beauty of painting a name, Bondoman… It’s changeable…

Dad named a couple different aircraft for Mom… Her name was Roberta, her nick was “Bertie”, so Dad used “Dirtie Bertie”…

OHhhhhh these are some beauties!!! NICE THREAD!!! Will get back to you on this one for sure!

I would name my WWII P-47 “Sure Fire Shelley” after my wife.

And my A-10 Warthog would be “Menace”, which is my youngest son’s nickname.

See Ya

Scott

Funny that you ask because I’m doing a fantasy build now of a P-38 flying out of Tacloban named after my red headed daughter. Lil’ Red. Attempting for the first time to print my own decals and here’s the nose art I came up with …

Don

I’ll probably just go why “CRY SOME MORE!” on an F-86 sabre, since its a lovable quote to the ennemie.

I was thinking an A-10 named “Metallica;” even using the band’s logo for the nose art. And the ordnance would all have “Metal up your [rear end]” painted or chalked on it.

Or what about a fleet of F-16s (preferably from Luke AFB) with the lead plane of the squadron called “Heavy Metal”; the others could be called “Black Sabbath,” “Iron Maiden,” “Judas Priest,” “AC/DC” and so forth, of course including “Metallica.”

Hmm, there’s an idea for a hypothetical build!

You would’nt happen to be a Stones fan would you there Bondo?

I’m gonna come around 12 I got some Puerto Rican girl thats been dyin" to meet you!

I guess I would have to name my aircraft “Molly” after my namesake, Melvin A. Mollberg KIA in WW II. He had a P-47D Razorback named after him. I had a custom made sheepskin jacket made with the art work on the back honoring him and my Dad. My Dad is the one holding the .50 cal barrel. I was able to visit Melvin’s gravesite in St. Louis, MO in 2003 where his remains along with 17 others were interred in 1959 after they were recoved from New Guinea.

Melvin “Molly” A. Mollberg

That’s a good story Mel. Thanks for sharing. I’ve seen pictures where a crewman lay on the right wing and gave the pilot hand signals to steer by while taxiing. Is that a common thing with Jugs?

There’s just something about Republic aircraft. Love 'em!

Mel,

That photo of the ‘Molly’ and your Dad is one in a million. Thanks for putting that on fella.

Id put ‘The Fighting Flo’ on my Mosquito after my ten year old daughter.
