Hi guys, this is my completed M-110 A2 (203mm) heavy self-propelled gun by Italeri. I pre-shaded it by spraying it white, outlining in black and then put my base on (desert yellow). The kit went together nicely, one small fit problem. It is in American markings. BTW what figures would be correct for this model?
I messed up on the wash in the front.
History on the M-110 A-2…
Towards the later Seventies the need of increased firepower of the U.S. self-propelled guns led to the development of a 203mm gun with extended barrel. The M-110 A-2 has considerable improvements compared to its predecessors M-107 and M-110 A-1 and is used by the U.S. Army and many other NATO countries. The 203mm gun has a firing range of more than 36 km and can be used with conventional grenades as well as nuclear ammunition. M-110’s were widely used by Israel during the Lebanon crisis in the Eighties. During the Gulf war the allies used M-110’s too. The gun can be dispatched by C-141 or C-5 giant cargo planes for immediate actions.
Technical details: length: 6.46m body - 11.10m with gun; width: 3.47m; height: 3.15m; Max. Speed: 55km/h; driving range: 724km; firing range: 36 km.
I do not have the tracks on b/c they were badly molded so I have sent Italeri an e-mail to see if they will replace them
Coming along nicely. Also looking foward to more. I do have a question about that kit. I built The M110 from Italeri years ago. Does this kit have the shorter barel in it also? Just wondering.
Don’t know if it is the lighting, camera, or the true color, but the sand looks too yellow-orange to me. Way too dark. If you are going for an ODS vehicle, about the only time they were painted sand, go with either Testors Army/Marines Gulf War Sand, or Testors Sand. For figures, any of the DML ODS era figures with PAGST body armor would be fine for an ODS vehicle. Any of the same DML figures would work for a camo vehicle as well for a mid-late 1980s setting. For an early '80s setting, replace the Kevlar helmets for M1 Steelpot helmets on the same DML figures and replace weapons with M16A1s. M110A2 was retired in mid 90’s, after ODS, and replaced by the M270 MLRS.
A few more things I now see. The rounds on the left rear deck and the transfer trolley should be dark green with black or metallic fuzes (depending on the fuze type), not sand like the rest of the vehicle. Fuel cans on left side should be green as well. Looks like you painted the portion of your road wheels that meet the track bare metal. They should be black as the road wheels have a rubber outer tire that makes contact with the rubber portion of the track to ruduce wear and vibration. The sight mechanisms, square block with couple of rods on right side and block with periscope on left side, both mounted on the trunion where the tube pivots, should also be green. These are sensative items, sepatrate pieces of equipment, romoved in transit and are not painted with the rest of the vehicle. Hope that helps some more. Good job so far.
BTW: my model has some shinny areas, I sprayed 2 coats of testors dullcote, and the areas are still shinny and the paint seams to be streaching/cracking. How do I fix this?
