I think that’s what I meant, I’d like to send the pic, when I did as the website said (again I think…lol) it came out as a link. Were you able to see the pic when you clicked on it?
Yes! I was able to see the picture when I clicked the link.
Ok, my next question, which would be better, the link or transfer the pic instead (as long as I can get the pic here)?
Hot links are fine, but generally posting w/ the pic included is a better choice for the viewers ease.
When you post, be sure to choose the “Use rich formatting” link next to the reply button. Mouse over the icons until you find the one on the bottom row that says ‘insert image’. clicking on this will open a pop up for you to insert your link there. The success of this seems to vary on which service you are using such as photobucket vs. flickr, so it may take some trial and error to figure out which link to use. [bnghead] You can always go back and edit your post if you don’t get it the first time. Hope that helped.
Yeah, Arnie60…was having a problem with that Photobucket, but I wasn’t using that one, I had Tinypic.com. I will try my photobucket again and see what happens. I’ll send a pic to ya just to see. Thanks for the tip. Trial & Error as they say…Lol
I’ll take the liberty of offering one suggestion - while it’s still a pretty simple fix. In many respects the kit is beautiful, and brilliantly designed. But there’s one real howler that sailing ship enthusiasts always comment on: the capstan that’s wrapped around the mainmast. That piece of irrational silliness originated with Disney; whether Zvezda’s designers realized how ridiculous it was I don’t know. (I suspect they did. They got plenty of other things right.)
I didn’t pay enough attention to the movies to comment on how much the kit looks like the movie prop. I can say that, in most respects, it’s a pretty good generic representation of a generic, mid-18th-century British warship. But capstans don’t have masts growing out of them.
I haven’t got the kit, but I wonder how difficult it would be to move the capstan to some other point on the ship’s centerline. (It would work just about anyplace where there’s room to swing the capstan bars.
I understand, but the mast is in place, ratlines glued with rope holdlng them on too. I’m not a miracle worker, lol. But wouldn’t mind doing that if…! And I can’t reply for some reason on the site thru my computer. Any suggestions?
I get pretty irritated when this gadget thinks it’s smarter than I am. What’s especially irritating is that it’s usually right.
I know that feeling! I’ll try the website again tomorrow.
Need some help here. I haven’t heard of anyone having this problem on the Black Swan/Pearl, but the upper ratlines on the aft mast are about5 3/8"-1/2"too long to where they should attach. The rest all fit good as they should. Sorry about the fuzziness, it’s in the camera somewhere. Anyone got any ideas what the problem is? I don’t want to tear down the aft mast, glued in as all parts are to it.I’m really at a standstill here til I can get this fixed. Thanks.
I can’t say for sure since the photo is so blurry, but it looks like you do not have it flush to the mast. If that is not the case, you might consider trimming off the bottom course of rat lines, or the top as the yards should hide it. David K can probably answer this better since he built one, but I have had the same problem on other builds and that was my solution.
Arnie60, I just have the ratline sitting there. I guess I could just cut the little tab off and glue it to the mast. There’s nothing wrong with the build there, it just doesn’t line up as it should. I hate doing that, but as you stated, might be the only thing to do. I thank you.
Bill, I think I mentioned before that I didn’t use the shrouds from the kit, but instead made shrouds and ratlines from thread…so I didn’t encounter any trouble in that respect. But, I can say that I found the kit parts to all fit very well, and for that reason I’m suspicious that the problem is not with the parts.
Two possibilities come to mind:
A- The masttop isn’t seated properly (possibly sitting too high on the mast?) causing the shroud assembly to be out of position; or
B- The shrouds are not the correct parts for that section. I seem to remember there were some discrepancies with part numbering on the kit, is it possible they have the parts incorrectly numbered? Do you have ALL the other shrouds in place, and do they all seem to be the correct size? Looking at my Swan, the only shrouds that are close enough in size to be mistaken would be the mizzen topmast shrouds and the foremast topmast shrouds. Any lower shrouds from the kit have larger deadeyes and would be obvious if they were in the wrong place.
Or who knows? Maybe they molded the parts too long? It is possible…but like I said, all the other parts were very well made and close-fitting.
I’ve had the misfortune of gluing parts before test-fitting them, and it can be a pain to disassemble a section of a model…try not to get too frustrated, you’ll figure out a solution! ![]()

Dave: I remember you telling me about the build out of thread, but I’ve been over and over these parts and everthing else fits to this rear mast as they should. The aft mast is a good 6.5" shorter than the main mast and the lower ratlines fit as they should. I guess I’ll just cut the tabs off and install them that way, done with prolonging the build on this ship.
I have everything glued and wrapped with line to this point, so I really don’t want to tear it all down now. The difference between the two ratlines are minimal but I have the right ones to install. I’ll go with what I have and continue with the altercations. I thank you for you expertise. She’s (the ship) is looking good if I must say so myself, best one I’ve done to this point. Have a good weekend and did you get my reply on if I was going to build another tall ship? If not, I am, just not sure with one…maybe the Mayflower til I really get my feet wet into ships. Your suggestion? And I’ll try not to get frustrated, but it’s not hard to do.
Bill
Looks real good!
Thank you for the nice comment. I have built other sailing ships, but none with sails. This is my first time, so hopefully I’ll learn quite a bit of knowledge, which I already have. The foremast was broken by an accident, not of my doings, but had it glued with everything attached!! Now it’s bowed forward a little so hopefully sails, etc. will hide that. It’s not bowed bad, just that I know it is and am trying to make it look right! Again, thanks for the positive comment.

Ok, need some advice here, ready to attach running rigging lines to pin rails (?) I’ve waxed the lines but they still seem to run a figure 8 when I try and loop them below the rails. Is there a way to keep them a little stiffer so they lay in a loop? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The lines attached to the sails (got one done) look like a bear to get done. But the one came out good, just time consuming to say the least. But that’s the life of a modeler, I guess.
