I’ve been working on this for about 4 months or so, I know the pics are not good quality enough I will take some more outside tomorrow.
Very nicely done Clint!
Steve
One of my favorite models and you did a most excellent job on it. It puts you right in the Mekong Delta. Well done!
Lee
Thanks for the coments guys. From the time I first seen the kit at the LHS I knew I wanted to put it on the Mekong and months later after experimenting and researching different ways to make the water I found something called Magic Water it doesn’t heat when it sets up so no melted plastic or any ill effects
A very nice model. The muddy water is superb.
A constructive criticism- I find scattering personal weapons around in dioramas to be a little odd. I would keep mine with me at all times, and probably where no one else could get to them.
I love it though and it motivates me to get going on my MAS boat in that scale.
Cool!
GMorrison: There is a Verlinden figure set out there that I’m trying to get of Brown Water Navy Crews at rest, once I win one on ebay they will be on dock by there weapons and there beer lol
Very impressive for a first boat. Pretty convincing “water” too.
Looks great! The diorama work is as nice as the boat itself.
Thanks Allan and Don. By the way Don your HMS Dreadnought in the last FSM was amazing I don’t think I have ever seen one with the torpedo nets deployed
Wow! The muddy water blew me away, along with the weathering of the boat! I must say two things. First, the lack of weathering of the ropes makes them stand out like a sore thumb. Second, the dock could use some weathering also.
thanks for the comment Jim, I think most of it is the flash washing stuff out a bit the deck got 3 washes of Tamiya German Grey and all the ropes got dipped in a brown filter from Mig not sure what one just grabbed a brown one and dipped them in. If I can find a day that its not raining out or over cast, then i’m gona take her outside for some better pics.
WAY,WAY,WAY more than I was expecting! Outstanding job on this one.
Thanks TD4438 really after I got the boat built I was at a loss on how to paint and weather her so I just went to the mind set that its not a boat its a tank stuck in water and weathered her as I would a armor project lol
Great Job!!
Hi :
Now , you have me worried . Is that any way to greet anyone .? making them go through the muddy water to get to your boat or dock ? HmpH .The nerve ! Ah someone left this here gun out an there’s no one around , think I’ll go monkey hunting !oops , that’s not P.C. is it ? Whatta job . You made me and my Marine buds who build models take a breath and say H%$** Yes , that is out of my memories , man ! Very impressive job . Now where’s the crew ? Hunkered down in the boat sleepin or sumpin?.Write those men up for leaving their pieces unattended and unsecured ! Model On ! ! Tanker - Builder
LOL thanks for droping in Tankerbuilder I’m still trying to get my hands on a crew for her there AWAL out on ebay somewhere but once I track them down they will be drug back to there post
Hey , Clint :
All kidding aside .You did a wonderful job and I do commend you for a fine effort .In the future comsider almost " Moldy " coffee to stain your wood before you add any other stains .it makes it easier to get a very aged or worn look . I still look in wonder at how you did the boat .Awesome , man
Tanker - Builder Model On ! ! P.S. will you help me get the little fish and leeches out of my boots now ?
Coffee?? thats a great idea hmm that means that I would have to restrain myself from drinking the entire pot.
Yes , and let it age at least a week !
My first wife once made a pot so strong , no one , even I , couldn’t drink it . We used wooden stirrers at the time ,on the patio and I saw what it did to the wood and saved the whole pot that was left (before she threw it out ) and let it stand in the garage for a week . I stirred it up and dropped a whole bag of stirrers in the pan .Wow , ash colored planks !
Two days later aged teak .So there ya go . Try it . This works real well if you get a brand called " LOUISIANE ". (It has Chicory in it )It may not be available where you live . If so use " Chock full O Nuts " brand . Folgers works too .Just takes longer . P.S . You still didn’t say if you’d get the little fishes out of my boots , I got them pesky leeches !
I will tell the wife to pick up a small can of Louisiane so I can try this thank you. As for the little fishes try throwing in a bigger fish that should take care of them lol
