Model Kits and supplies at Hobby Lobby

Was curious if anyone here has checked out, and bought model stuff from them. They usually have 30-40% off sales on kits and supplies. In Louisville, the best hobby store is Scale Reproductions. In a pinch, I’ve gone to Hobby Lobby to pick up something I need. (About 10 minutes from my house)
They have a large selection of cars and trucks. Aircraft and Armor, not so much. I was surprised by the amount of tools and paint they carry.

They used to stock more aircraft and armor than they do now. There were a few times I went in there and came out with Tamiya or Accurate Miniatures kits that I found on their mark-down shelf. Paints, glue, and brushes have always been well stocked.

Yeah, in the past Hobby Lobby had a much bigger selection of kits and now it seems like it’s either automotive or Gundum. I typically go there for some of my modeling supplies like glues or brushes.

Nah,they have absolutely no kits that interest me.

I’m “happy” to have one an hour away as it’s literally my only option, but if you have another option, good for you.

There’s one about 30 minutes away. I find them hit or miss (mostly miss lately)on aircraft models but at random times seem to have a decent selection. I bought the new (at the time) Airfix P51D & P40B in 1/48 scale and quite a few of the new Airfix 1/72 scale aircraft P51D, F4F-4, A6m2, P40B (&Tomahawk Mk2) Bf109-G6 and a couple of others. They also had several of the Airfix ‘Classic’ Sherman & Panther. I’ve also picked up a Mincraft 1/144 C130 j Hercules & B24D, 1/32 Monogram Panzer IV amoung others. So it’s been fairly decent over the past couple of years until now.
Now it seems the Gundam, Transformers and Star Wars kits have nudged most of the Aircraft Kits out.
I guess it’s fine as my stash is over 500 kits now and I really don’t have much more room anyway.

Regards,
Adrian

I got to say though, the Gundam selection is pretty lame. A lot of the kits are purely from those newer shows catered to purely sell kits rather than actual interesting builds. Sometimes they have some interesting stuff, but not too often.

When they were selling the Airfix kits I was there on a regular basis. Picked up quite a few kits with the 40% mark down.

Bought a F22 kit a while back 40% off. Selection is small and doesnt change much.

I’ve bought from them occasionally but I have 2 local hobby shops with much better selection that are just as close. If I don’t buy online, I’ll buy from one of the 2 hobby shops.

I actually don’t have a hobby lobby close to me, but the only store that sells model kits within a short distance is the local hardware store. They have mostly revell kits - cars and warships mostly.

Got one about an hour away from me, never been inside.

We have a Hobby Lobby roughly 20 minutes away.
The selection ranges from Revell/Monogram, AMT/Ertl, Academy and Airfix.
Our store more so focuses on cars and for the aircraft, the selection is more basic but as of lately I’ve seen more repops of Accurate Miniatures and Revells newer stuff.
Armor and ships are a hit n miss and not sure about the orher locations but I see a lot of Snaptite as well.
At least someone is thinking about the beginners..
Supplies are decent but the paints, not so much. I’ve bought a fee models from there just because of the discounted deals.

I had to go do lab work for an upcoming medical appointment this morning. On account of this thread, I actually pulled into the parking lot where a HL is near my doctor’s office, but it was just past 8 AM and they were not going to open until 9 AM. I didn’t wait. Maybe some other time.

Hobby Lobby often has “Master Touch” art supplies on sale on the opposite weeks of their 40% off on model kits so that’s when I pick up brushes, paints, & other art/modeling supplies.

I have two choices, hobby lobby or online shopping. I have come to appreciate hobby lobby as my model building tastes have changed. If i was still building WWII models i would be disappointed. As it is, i am happy with the cars (although the selection could change a little faster) and the sci-fi kits.

I checked them out for the first time last week. They had a relatively tiny collection compared to the rest of the store but had a decent collection of cars and supplies. I picked up an AMT 1955 Chevy cameo Coca Cola truck I’m looking forward to building.
