As I’m moving up north of England and I have more chance seeing the sun rather than a model shop has anyone got any kits from the above?

Hi Bodie,
Not a dealer I am familiar with unfortunately.
But I have had good service from these three

I am in Leeds by the way, where up north are you moving to ?
By the way…it’s not that grim up north
Ian
Thanks Ian.
I know it’s not that grim up north. I’ve waited nearly three years to get up to Manchester and fingers crossed I should be there at the end of October. Man I can’t wait.
I mailed to Mike to see what It’s like for Model shops and he mail orders most of his. Good to hear from you Ian [:D]
I will be around Ashton way fingers crossed
Lenny
I get mine from http://www.wonderlandmodels.com/
they have some great discounts on some kits and there good to
so your moving near Ashton, my Sister lives between Ashton and Stalybridge
Bodie I have heard that Hannants will ship north of the Watford gap, not sure how true that is though![;)]
The Aviation Hobby Shop also does good mail order, on:
They’re my LHS BTW.
Karl
Thanks guys
For all your help
Lenny
hehehe… You just have to tip the gate guard a few quid so that they’ll let your model parcels thru [;)]
I’m sure there’s some great model shops in Manc, but as it’s about 45 miles away along the M56 which is crap to drive on during the day because of the weight of traffic, I never go there…
I’ve never heard of the folks at F&S either… their website needs a bit of work too!!! You’ll end up with a billion windows on your screen if you stay there very long [:D]
We’ll have to start a North of England GB if there gets to be any more of us in this corner of the UK. We could always start up our own model shop? [;)]
I know what you mean Mike with that web and all, bit of a pain. I’m up Manchester on the 11th october for an interview and to see the other half so I may take the liberty of looking around to see what I can find.
The group build sounds a good idea but having never been involved in one it would be all new to me. [:)]
Lenny
Ah, it’s a piece of…errr…cake [;)] You just pin a badge (like the Victor one I made) to your signature, and worry about not actually doing any work on the project you’ve promised to do for the build… that’s what I’ve been doing! [:D]
Now where did I put that Victor/Ho229/Mosquito/He-177? [:I]
Hmm … well if you must go to the frozen North then that is up to you - but in truth teh probablity is that there are just as many if not more model shops there than in the South. The only one I know of of any real repute (simply for kits) is in Poole near Bournemouth - lots of old kits - from many countries and all at the most realistic prices (they do mail order incidentaly but no lists - just ring and ask). I believe he said he had over 12000 in stock…! I get most of my stuff from Hannants who will ship anywhere - if you can imagine something the size of a medium B & Q store but full of model kits and accessories then you have some idea of the scope of the Lowestoft store. So where are you moving from?
Poole isn’t in the North, or have I mis-read you?
No you haven’t Mike. I’m in Bedfordshire at the moment moving north. Though Poole is a lovely part of the country. Haven’t been there since my Army days.
Lenny
You never know - you might turn up a gem of a model shop that might…just might be within striking distance of sunny Chester [:D]
Hi,
here’s another one that I have just recently heard of. http://www.netmerchants.co.uk I’ve not ordered from them, but I am pretty certain that I will be in the near future. They appear to be based in Norther Ireland. previously I’ve only used Hannants for mail order, but this new place seems to be very competitively priced and worth a try.
Paul
Bedfordshire is pretty far North is it not?? Manchester is just a few miles up the M1/M6 is n’t it? Poole aint so good now - more or less merged with Bournemouth which I have to say is a bit grim - and Mike - it is on the South Coast - just before you get to France. From what I last saw - 6 or 7 years ago the inner part of Manchester is now pretty smart - not sure a model shop would be able to produce the turnover to pay the rent!
This is the problem all over England - Chester has one of greediest councils about. They think nothing of doubling or trebling the rent in the city centre, and consequentially, the only shops that can make ends meet are winebars, pubs or cafes. Then they wonder why our city centres have a problem with alcohol related violence… ugh…
I think there are a couple of modelshops in Leeds if you get over that way, or, in my neck of the woods, (& I know its a fair way from Manchester) there’s Hobbins models way down the High street above Blockbusters In Lincoln. I’ll be there in a few weeks, I’ve got three weeks at home coming up!
I can also vouch for wonderland models, some huge discounts, also kitkrazy is very good for older kits, or modelsforsale.com, near Nottingham.
Pete
I will be doing a recce on Manchester, Ashton, Denton, Hyde and anywhere else that comes along my way when I go up for a couple of days. Won’t be too hard for me to direct the wife to the nearest clothes shops while I go off some where [:D]
Then again I might get this [B)]
Lenny
By the way Bedford is 156 miles south of Manchester and I go up the A1/M1then straight on through. By the way on the way up there I go pass where the shot some of the low flying on the Dambusters film. Can’t remember what the place is called but anyway I can just see and hear the roar of those merlins everytime I go passed it. [8D]
Ian will be able to tell us about his LHSs - he’s from Leeds. It’s still a hefty journey either from Chester (where I am), or Manchester where Lenny’s going to be.
