Hi folks,
This is a minor pet peeve, but when writing about a flat finish, the word is “matte,” not “matt.”
The word is probably of French origin, and we all know how poorly Frech words are spelled. [;)]

Or there instead of their or your instead of you’re …ad nauseum.
My peeve is loose for lose, as in “I was afraid our team would loose today”. Also irregardless, when it’s properly regardless. Irregardless means not regardless.
There are three words that sound alike: Mat, Matt and Matte. Mat is like a bathmat, or the border you put around a picture while framing it. Matt is a person’s name and is short for Matthew. And finally Matte from the French word for dull and originally latin “mattus”. So you could say “Matt painted matte while standing on a mat.” Sadly matt has been included in dictionaries as an alternate spelling, thereby speeding the decline of the English Language as we know it.

Humbrol has used the word matt on it’s paint tins for at least the last 25 years!
If you start sorting out the English go back to basics!
It’s Grey, not gray Colour, not color…
Matt and Matte are both perfectly acceptable, unless your French/Canadian[;)]
Well now. I use color and honor on American forums, though I spell them colour and honour on Canadian and English ones. (Does that make me bilingual?) I work in the printing trade and we use matte exclusively, both for ink colours and paper finishes.
This must be why Tamiya uses Flat instead of Matte/Mat. My Merriam-Webster lists mat as a variant of matte, and goes on to say that “mat” is from the Olde English “Meatte” Interesting that Humbrol uses mat instead of matte. Of course, this comes from a culture that uses biscuits and chips wrong, too! [;)]
I’ll have to let my English friends the Grays know that they don’t exist…

I just put a matt finish on my build. your going to love it. Their are all sorts of things on it, but some came lose. I sure dont think I’ll loose the upcoming competition, I know I’ll beat you’re model.

Okay-BG you asked for it -both ‘matt’ and 'matte" are derivatives of ‘mat’ according to the OED.
