Hi all, never one to let the grass grow under his feet LOL. The G-10 has begun.
I intended to use a resin set for the pit,but on searching through my AM stuff draw, i realised that i had an Eduard set for the G-10. Woo hoo. Loads of glorious PE.
Like the a@@ i am, i didnt photo the pit before i fitted the fuzz halves together. It went together the usuall way. RLM 66 then a wash and then a few highlights, drybrushed with some silver.
I added the fuel line and the clear sight glass, made from thin solder and stretched clear sprue. Next up i started on the wheel wells, opening them up to accomodate the larger wheels and adding the pe floor and channel.
I cut away the outer hinged doors of the radiators with a sharp No11 blade.
then built up the radiators.
Finished them in RLM 02 the grills painted Semi gloss black and drybrushed silver.
Heres a few other bits i finished, including the cockpit tub.
Hope you like. Gotta go i can here the missus moaning. LOL
Everything looks great from what I can see Guy. Thoses radiators look awesome. i can’t wait to see how they look installed in the wings. Just make sure you let the misses know that you still love her as much as your models once in a while!
Im glad you like the process so far. I think i made the right decission going for the pe set instead of the resin. The IP is just sweet as. Its the coloured PE and the colour is great. I read somewhere (Here probably) the best way to attach the 3 pieces that make it up together is with a Gloss!! I used Humbrol Gloss. This holds it together perfectly and also makes the lenses look like glass. Bonus.
As for the sight. Thankyou Stan for the pics. I also searched the web for more. The kit part comes as a piece of clear styrene with some dubious molding for the reflected lens. 1stly i shaved of the lens part and painted the lot Semi gloss black. When dry i used the PE piece for the lens support and a piece of supplied clear acetate for the lens. Then all i did was add some fine solder for the cable. (They all seem to have this cable) All i did then was paint the cushion thingy on the front. It looked too thin so i gave it a few thick coats. She does look sweet though.
JMart, Luftwaffle, thx fellas.
Namerednef Its funny, ive just finished putting a door in the understairs, that took me a while. Quite a few browny points from the future ex-missus as well lol. As for the garden, i sit in it occasionally and lift heavy things for her but thats it.
Soulcrusher Im dying to get at again tonight. Its like an urge i cant suppress. As for the missus, im one of those blokes who probably dont tell her enough that i L@@@ her. She does cross stitch so is quite happy to sew and watch the soaps. [xx(] while im upstairs modelling.
Stan, you is the luftwaffe man and good comments from you are ace
Greg and Aaron, Im all for wierd superlatives. holy shnikies! and wondertatious. Yeah baby, you wierdo’s LOL but in a good way.
Frank, cheers fella, maybe more tonight. you never know.
Chukw, What the heck are you doing here? Arnt you sposed to building? LOL. Any sign of little Chuck, what does he reckon of it so far LOL.
Well, I did a bit tonight. It only looks like a bit but seemed to take forever.
Heres todays installment. 1stly i finished off the front of the radiators and added the noticable centre wire out of a bit of stretched sprue,
Then i started on the rear rads. These are tub shaped so that the radiator itself sits inside the tub. The trailing edge of the hole that the rad sits in has to be filed to a sharp edge. That way the ‘Tub’ sits in the wing flushly. These went together surprisingly smoothly. I love Eduard! (The company and not some random bloke with the same name OK!!!)
Next up i started on the opening part of the rear radiators. Now these are sweet as, they went together very nicely, The key is not to use too much glue and try to keep the joins as cleanly as possible. I scratch the surface to be glued. That way you get a pretty good bond.
Finally i had to have a mock up or two. 1st one was the IP with gunsight attached (Temporarily) and 2ndly the fuselage… Oh yeah the lower wing has now been attached permanantly. Looks like the top parts of the wings will fit with little or no filler Woo hoo.
Dude… that is some butt kickin’ work there. The gas flow tube inthe pit looks very cool. Bu that sight. it’s quite a… well… a sight[:P] Excellent work Guy.
Oh yeah… thanks for taking over as hte guy crankin’ 'em out like a man possessed. I am still tired from last year[:D]
THANKS A LOT! After seeing your gunsight on this bird, every one I have built is now woefully inaccurate. CAn you tell me more about yours? Did you make the little brackets on the sides? Are they part of a specific PE set? Inquiring minds want to know! [:D]
That is some excellant detailing. The cockpit instrument panels are way beyond my cockpits. I need more time and patience. Really nice work. Can’t wait to see the final product!
I had no idea I had made so many 109’s wrong until reading your threads. I mean quite a few. Enough to seek a support group for all the repairs and rebuilds I need to do. I betcha Adolf Galland himself didn’t know half as much about himself and his mount as you do. Ack! Very fine work. I have always been gunshy when it comes to the super detail upgrades. You have peaked my curiosity. Excellent work. You put the photo in photo- etch![tup]
Wow lufty, in short order I’m going to be second gun to you in adding details to 109’s. That wire on the gun sight is the power cord I think. I add to most of my builds as well. Between you ,GZT, mikey, and daywalker I’m going to have to do something crazy to keep up with you all. It great to see your work lufty It keeps me going.
I usually don’t post these just becasue I don’t really think many people give a hoot most of the time. But here a 2 pics of my recent 109K and one of a older G-6 build cockpit. A buddy took the cockpit pic. other than the PE insterment panel all the other details are scratch built.
You can see the structural rib in the radiator flap. Piece of fine styrene cut to shape.
This pic you can kinda see the oil and wing rad actuators (bars in the center). The oil cooler also has the mesh deflector added as well. all in the closed position.
G-6 cockpit showing revi gunsight wire. made from thin speeker wire.
Some ideas for you, If you do not wish to but the exterior PE, alot of the details can be scratchbuilt. Your already to this point yourself. In some cases you find you can make as good or better examples then some aftermarket parts. Your going to have a very expertly detailed 109 lufty.
Are you crazy!!! There arnt enough 109’s on the net… Let alone FSM!!! If you produce another and dont show it, there will be trouble. Me an the other Luftwollers will be round to sort ya out son. LOL
Your birds look sweet fella. Feel free to post em on the thread if you want…
Thx for the great words, Stan and for contributing.
[#ditto] Looking at your work Stan, I don’t think you have to worry about me catching up to your work anytime soon! I have heard a few grumblings about “too many '109s” round here, but in my eyes- an aircraft such as this deserves all the attention it gets. [tup]
