Launch Complex 39

Im new to the group so this is my first post.
I am currently building a 1/72 Shuttle Launch Complex.
I’ve been working on it for years and recently decided to pick it up again
and finish it.

Take a look at my progress if you want at http://shuttlelaunchcomplex.com/

any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Holy schmoly!
That is sooooo very nice. Be proud, for you are doing some beautifulwork.

Mind-boggling! You are doing outstanding! I’d love to know what scale that is too!

its done in a 1/72 scale

What a fantastic undertaking.

Are you going to have a launch vehicle there also? I do not usually get into the space forum. When I saw the title of your thread I had to see what you are doing. I am in the process of building a launch site diorama of the Regulus One. Fortunately the launch platform is nowhere near as complicated as yours.

By the way, Welcome to the forum. It appears as if you will have a lot to offer us modelers with what you do. You could also put a post in the diorama section if you choose to go that way with your build. Looking forward to see more progress photos. Keep up the good work.

I’m impressed with the aircraft carrier as well and WELCOME

Excellent job and welcome. Where did you get your references from? Some day I might actually do a scratchbuild like that. When I become good:)

all i used for reference were lots and lots of pictures…a calculator , a rular and a pair of dividers…and staring at a pic for an hour sometimes to pick out details.

[:)] AMAZING! I wanted to try something like that for my Revell Saturn V (the big one) but I have no idea were to start. You are inspiration!
Keep up the good work!![:D][:D][:D][:D][:D]

does anyone have any pics of the inside of the levels on the fixed service structure?

infimurf,

Contact Bionetics corporation at Kennedy Space Center. They hold the photo contract for out at KSC and CCAFS (last I heard they still did) and I know they have a room the size of your house with photos dating back to the 50’s. They may be able to supply you with some pictures. Otherwise, make a call to KSC Public Affairs and they may be able to help you out. If you explain what you are doing they may be extremely helpful. Worse case they can just say no… I know years ago we worked on a model of LC40 and 41and the VIB (Vertical Integration Building) when we were refitting for Titan IV and Commercial Titan and was amazed at the amount of drawings generated on these two structures. But the models came in handy to figure out equipment and platform shuffling when it came time to bring iin new test vehicles.

Good Luck

That is one masive undertaking. a super job thanks for the veiw.

My oh my…! That’s mind-boggling! Where did you get your info from??? I’ve been dreaming of doing the same type of job with the main Soviet launch pad but the lack of info is a big problem. Of course, being Soviet, it would have to be difficult to find that type of info!!!

hey guys, check out the progress on my shuttle launch complex. i took most of august off needed a rest. now i’m back working on it.

does anyone out there know the diameter of the lightning mast on top of the FSS. I know it is 80 ft long.

Just checked out your progress,…UNBELIEVABLE!!!
Words probably do about as much justice to your work as the photos do.
