Just saw Kelly's Heroes for the first time

Well, its true, I finally saw Kelly’s heroes[:0][:I]. Not a bad movie either!
I missed the first hour but caught the rest of it. I think i saw one German get away, besides the Tiger commander[;)][:D]. Did, I spy a record player on the side of the Sherman?

lloks like I wasn’t the only one watching AMC

i caught a bit of it here and there… great movie. rebel, i have it on DVD so if you ever want to see it in full, let me know and you can borrow it awhile…

the record player was to play loud music when they went into combat because it calmed them down…

John go and hire it and watch the whole thing. It is well worth it, humerous and thouroughly entertaining. Given it’s age it was a decent attempt to depict real vehicles instead of the usual grey painted obsolete US Equipment. Yeah you can pick a lot of other faults (lightweight gold containg crates, etc) but it is supposed to be fun, not real.

That actually, like you said, did an ok job with accuracy.
I wondered why There was loud music when they attacked the railyard! now i know fo sure.
Looks like i am going to the movie store this weekend!

“It’s a mother beautiful bridge”. Definitely one of my favorite WW2 movies, even if they did go with the low end of the budget on accuracy.

yea my dad was watching that. clint eastwood, donald sutherland, that other guy from the dirty dozen. pretty good cast. why is it that in all these old war movies, theres never any actor under 40? whats up with that?

I have a guess that it is the era these films they were shot.
At 1960-1965 the war veterans (soldiers) they were in their 40s so they could relate to the actors.
But you gotta love these films. Not ugly violent like Platoon, Red Thin Line, Saving Private Ryan etc, ie no gut splatter, and not plain silly like Rambo.
They focused on the morality of heroes. War could be heroic but not glorious and also the good guy was the GOOD guy. Even at his death bed he would lecture about peace, the girl back home, mother´s Sunday roast etc.

OMG that my favourite movie ODDBALL is such a champion, i think my dvd of it will wear out soon coz ive watched it so many times

that’s one of the classics that just have to be seen [:p] woof, woof that’s my other dog expression
if you ever want to make a dio of the movie?http://www.salt6.com/shermans.htm

Luc.

You just saw it Rebel ? And you didn’t even watch the whole thing ?

Wow, that’s a great movie - great action - classic Clint Eastwood - Don Rickles for comedy - very good WWII reprentation - (well, the armor is not 100% accurate) and it’s probably 30+ yrs old !

first DVD i ever bought for myself… great movie.

That other guy from the Dirty Dozen is Telly Savales.I actually went and saw that movie at the theatre.I remember as a kid it was so cool to actually see Shermans and Tigers instead of M.60s painted up.Gotta love those positive waves man!!![8D]

Very nice movie, but the local citizens in the cut-away shots are very scary( at the end when Kelly’ guys the discover the gold.) It’s as if they had a casting call for the ugliest and most disturbing old people

what i can’t get over, is all the work they had to go through to convert those T-34’s into tigers.

seems a popular way to recreate the Tiger, though. Same way in Band of Brothers and Saving Private Ryan. T-34s are cheap and plentiful, apparently

yep, and most people cant tell.

build 22, yep, I just saw it![:I] I happened to see it on AMC but I missed the first hour, so, now I have to rent it[:D]

That movie is hilarious! Watch the negative waves, and Oddball isn’t from “Jersey ,where they think a hero is some kinda sandwiche.”

Seen lots of nice versions of the tanks done in this forum.
One of our club members just finished his Tiger from the movie.

I find it pretty amusing that Carol O’Connor (Archie Bunker) was the Major General.
