I agree Frank. I am a big fan of older kits. They are much simpler to put together. Might need a bit of putty and sandpaper, and a future dip for the canopy, but I tend to enjoy those builds much more. Plus you get a sense of satisfaction at the end of it all.

Almost done with the Val - this is what a Flory wash looks like before removing - kinda YIKES!

And calling her done. Pretty fun build. Couple issues - cowling cracked when installing over the radial engine. Centerline bomb mount is really confusing. Otherwise pretty good

Hello boys! It’s been a minute. Life can get in the way in the most… erm, funniest ways? Lots of work, lots of frustrations, lots of life disillusions, lots of lost time on the model, which ended up sitting on the bench for almost 3 months, waiting for me to find the motivation to pick it up and remove the canopy masks, glue the landing gears, and all the various small parts left.
THe motivation lack was in no small part due to a myriad of troubles I met with the model itself. I may have mentioned parts melting, becoming super brittle when they got rigid again, breaking super easily. I also had the wings “stick” to the stand, disrupting the plastic and the paint. I even had parts unglueing - the wings started to come off !
In the end, I don’t know what exactly happened. I was told, maybe, some form of lacquer thinner / air contamination, due to working in a very, very small desk within a badly ventilated room where humidity levels and temperature were BAD. We had storms, then heat waves, then storms again. Windows stay closed.
Anyway it was a pain, and it got me pretty discouraged and wary of all things Eduard, hah ! I think the sopwith Camel I have in the stash will have to wait, now. Back to Tamiya for a while, whenever I can get back to the bench, after I move from the broom closet, anytime now.
Once again, it’s only after taking the photos and putting the model away somewhere cat-proofed that I realized how much dust was on it. I thought the canopy was clean, too, haha. Anyway here we are, the Eduard A6M2 Zero Type 21 done.
Now to learn how to do a proper wash, because I always end up dirtying the model rather than making the seams pop out…
