Japanese Group Build XIV (2025)

That would explain why there were so many practice runs in preparation for Pearl Harbor and later the lack of coordination and effectiveness of Japanese airstrikes as the war progressed. Things that will be considered when the Eduard kit in my stash is started.

That engine looks real good mobious. Sorry to hear of your landing gear woes. Glad you were able to bounce back from that little problem!

EBergerud, your Shiden is off to a quick start. I have updated the roster with this entry. :+1:

The cockpit looks good :+1: :ok_hand:. The natural metal finish and captured markings are an interesting choice and I’ll be looking forward to seeing updates.

I added nav lights for the Oscar with bits of stretched clear sprue. Fixed them in place sanded and buffed then added color with a maker.

Got the base color on the Ki43 and spent most of the morning doing the masking thingy. Thought I had it at 100% turns out it was more like 97%. I knew any of the over spray would be highly visible on the dark black green base so took extra care and still ended up with a few leaky mask. Thanks to the clear coat nothing a little clean up with damp swab couldn’t take care of.

Still have the anti-glare area and the fuselage bands to mask and paint. Some detail painting and perhaps a pilot.
The butterfly flaps got knocked off a couple of times, so they’ve been left off until later. I was expecting that after initially fixing them in place. There sitting in the box with the canopy and the few items that remain.
A couple of new techniques were attempted on this build. The hairspray chipping thingy and the navigation lights. Plan on painting the markings as well but I’ll have to wait and see how it goes.
Overall, This is a pretty good kit with nicely detailed assemblies a good fit and crisp panel lines.

Thanks waikon, the nav lights are an inexpensive and relatively quick upgrade

I began cleaning up a Japanese Army pilot and ended doing a head transplant as well. Thankfully the Tamiya Ki-84 kit that the pilot was drafted from also provided an additional seated figure who gladly donated his head. :grimacing::thinking:

Dr Frankenstein would have been pleased. Just need to clean the neck and head up and this one will be in primer.

That interior color in the wheel wells and flaps looks to be spot on fore that “hard to achieve” Japanese interior color.

Thanks for the comments.

Not the results I was hoping for. I had to do touch ups several times but got the final paint on this guy and sealed it up with a dull coat.

The pilot of the Ki-34 will have the call sign “Meyer”
Thanks for looking, and happy modeling

I like it! Figure painting is hard but they add a better sense of scale to a model and up the level of interest a notch or two. I think it looks good enough. :+1:

Your “Meyer” figure turned out very good and like cbaltrin said, it will add a sense of scale to your final presentation of the model.

Thank you both for the positive comments.
The Ki-43 is at the finish line with the addition of Life-Like 48-041 decals. These decals are great! I’ve chosen Major T. Ishikawa of the 50th Sentai based out of Toungoo South A/B Burma 1943 as the subject. A strikingly colorful aircraft. The yellow ID panels are included in the decal set but I chose not to utilize them. Just finished up masking and painting the canopy, reattaching the Fowler flaps, and adding all the little bits and pieces.

This build was fun, challenging and frustrating. Main thing is I greatly appreciated the comments. Thank you again

Had to post the final shots…

Shortly after these were taken “Meyer” was reportedly hot dogging the Oscar and crashed. Oscar, Meyer, both burned :fire:.

Stunning looking Oscar and pilot @Mobious !

I’ll use the last picture for the wall if you don’t mind. And I certainly hope that bit aboute Meyer was not true! (Funny as it was…)

Thanks for the comments and yes the last photo would be the preferred and no they are neatly set on the shelf waiting to be joined by a Ki-84 Hayate. Did manage to break the windscreen on the Oscar. Clumsily doing a barrel roll trying to avoid sheering the Fowler flaps, again, when it fell to the floor and thats when I decided it would be a great time to learn ballroom dancing :man_dancing: “Tink” was the sound I heard when I knew I found it.
