After a brief visit to the armour section, its back to an aircraft build. I have not done a floatplane before even though tehre are a few German ones i would like to build. DSo its nice to finally get to building one. This was a gift from a very good mate on the forum.
I am adding a few extras including 2 PE sets from AIMS. I stumbeled across this at the last minute and its really nice, even if the instrcutions take a bit of studying to figure out. I also have some resin exhausts and AM decals from Print Scale and vac canopies from Squadron.
So first thing to tackle was to fit the PE to the inside.
And put the PE pit together. The compatment behind the PE includes the radio’s and what i guess is the navigators position. The PE instructions include a suggestion for a set of resin radio’s from Aber. Forunatly i could still get these as i think this set is a few years old as it mentions useing the Goffy resin engine set.
I will add seatbelts to the rear compartment but not the pit as i plan on adding seated crew figures.
I am assuming the book shelve like item is for maps, code books. before i seal up, i hope to find something to go in there.
After a coat of primer and some paint, weathering was kept like with Flory washes and dry brushing.
Mike, ye, its a good size. Haven’t got the wings together yet, but the fuselage is a foot long.
Steve, the interiour definatly shows how od this kit is, typical for the day from what i remember, and definatly deserves some help. But other features like the panel lines and engines are really nicley done. I am enjoying this.
Thanks for looking in guys. I was realy lucky to stumble on this PE set. My usual luck would have had me finish the build and then find it. And the kit pit really needs somthing.
Bob, its not one you see often. There is not much info out there, i couldn’t find many pics of the interiour, and none of the pit, so haveing to wing it a bit.
Thnaks Toshi, and don’t worry, like everythign else, it just takes practice. I have been useing this stuff for years, but even so i still mess it up at times. This is just a really nice set and great to put together.
This is a great subject and the kit looks good. The PE find was great luck and greatly improves the pit. Your PE work looks great I just keep reminding myself one kit at a time and I will get better. Again great build and can’t wait to see more.
Great work Bish! I have never done a float plane and this gives me inspiration to give it a go! I think my next aircraft will be one for sure. Like you though, I want to jump into at least one armor project first. Do you find going between armor and aircraft gives you a nice balance on interest and also maybe updates your skill set so you can apply different techniques on both?
Geezer, thanks for looking in, hopefuly an update will be coming soon.
panzer, thank you. Ye, i like to try and mix it up. Sometimes thats easier said than done, especially with GB commitments somtimes determining the subject genre. I have a lot more aircrfat than armour, so my aim is to do 1 armour to every 2 aircraft, but that does not always work out. After this, i will be doign 2 armour builds. I try not to leave it 2 long as i end up forgetting things, especially when it comes to weathering.
I also like to do Sci Fi builds and have a few ships i would like to do, so trying to fit those in as well can be tricky. But ye, i do find there are things i can take from one genre and use on another.
Well, i was meant to post some pics a few dys ago. But i did my usual and just kept modelling. Having had a few slow days, i managed to have a couple of god nights and got quite a bit done.
So with the radios added and 3 crewman in place, i was able to get the pit fitted.
And got the last bits fitted to the rear compartment, useing some balsa for the wooden planks.
With this all done, i was able to close it up and add all the outside detail. Needed a bit of filler in some spots, there a few sink marks on the outside. Also got all the small PE parts added.
So all i have left to do is fit the canopy and add the engines and cowlings, then i can get painting. I have thought i might be able to paint with the wings attached, but i am not sure i will be able to do that. Going to have to dry fit to see if i can.
Nice job Bish, you do excellent work! I have always loved this airplane since I saw some old photos of it moored in, I believe, Lorient, France during WW2. I am looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Thnaks Johnny, glad you like it. I have never really paid this one much attention, despite building primarily German aircraft. I think its one of those thats often over looked, i hope i can do it justice.
