Imperial Japanese Group Build Part II

RULES

  • Start date January 1, 2013.

  • Run time till December 31, 2013. No extensions, if there is enough interest we’ll see about a part III!

  • Japanese subjects (which I’ll define as fighting under Japanese colours- aka a captured P-40 with Japanese markings and flown by a Japanese pilot would be considered ‘Japanese’)

  • Cross-overs welcome

  • Pre-started kits fine as long as they’re under 50% completed (assembled but not painted).

  • Any ‘roll-over’ non-completions from part I are welcome.

  • I am leaning toward Second World War subjects only since almost all the interest has been toward this. If anyone wants to do anything else please throw it out for discussion.

And have fun guys and gals!

Hi Cliff,

Excellent ! You’ve already got my entry. I like #5 Rising Sun in the fun badges, and #6 Tony (of course) in the serious badges.

Cheers

Tony

Thanks Tony and lol - the Ki-61 for you is a natural [;)]

Got you down and ready!

Glad you’re doing round II Gamera. I missed the first one due to too many commitments. I should be able to knock one out here though. Put me down for a 1 48 Ki-100 Hasegawa with an Aires pit.

Nathan: Great - got you down, looking forward to seeing how she comes out, love those Aires cockpits but generally I’m too cheap to spring for them.

Well lucky for me the kit was on ebay for around 18 bucks and included the Aires pit! I think the ki-100 and ki-61s are one of the coolest Japanese a/c so I sprung for it.

Wow, congrads! Usually the Aires cockpit sells for more than 18 bucks just by itself.

Im In!!!

I will get busy with a 1:48 scale Hasegawa “George” for starters.

I also have a Nichimo 1:48 scale Sonja that I had been working on so I will restart that baby too.

This is gonna be great!!

Freddie from LI

Thanks Freddie- got you down now.

Have not done a Group Build here before so as there are no Shippys listed, I will be doing Tamiya’s 1-350 Yamato with the full Lion Roar set…Cheers mark

Mark: Fantastic! I’ve drooled over the new Yamato ever since I saw her released. I don’t have the PE skills to really do her justice though. Looking forward to seeing how you assemble her with all that Lion Roar goodness!

I dont know if you have seen these images before, but they are by a Japanese wartime artist, Shori Arai

Count me in. And if this GB is open to armor put me down for a 1/35 Tamiya Chi Ha

Thanks Gamera. I only have the old Yamato Kit not the new one but will have fun building her with the bells and Whistles…Cheers mark

SP: Sure! I did have aircraft in the rules left over from the last GB but I’m open to anything as long as it’s Japanese so I went back and changed aircraft to subjects. Looking forward to seeing what you do with the old kit. And those are some great paintings there, really give you the impression of what it must have been like to be there. If everyone would rather use one of them as a badge it’s fine, I just grabbed some photos off the internet just as examples. We’ll just have to settle down with two or so before someone finishes the first model, which if Trey joins us as fast as he builds will be about a week or two from the kick-off date. [;)]

Mark: Ah, my mistake still the older kit with all those Lion Roar bells and whistles is going to be a killer model!

Cliff

Cool! I really want to do that Chi Ha to take a different tack on my latest armor builds. I built that kit once before nearly 40 years ago, the Ho Ni SP gun almost 25 years ago, and then the Shin-hoto Chi Ha about 15 years ago or so. The basic kit is certainly one of Tamiya’s better kits from that time

Those paintings are just fascinating to me and the detail and obvious Japanese style really capture the moments. I have always been most fond of the bottom one where the crew is waving farewell to the departing Val.

Really cool SP, nice work on the complex camo and the rusted tread links. Looking forward to ‘The Return of the Chi-Ha!’

Thanks! Would you believe that was all handbrushed? On the next one I have a Gunze paint set for IJA tanks and will be trying out silly putty for masking in my first use of that stuff.
