I finished my 1/48 Hasegawa Hurricane today, and here are the pics.
I used an Aires cockpit and Eduard flaps. I added hydraulic lines to the landing gear, and I replaced the gunsight “glass” with clear sheet. The camo is Model Master enamels, and the landing gear, wheel wells, and flaps are Alcad. The decals are from the kit fro Ian R. Gleed’s Hurricane Mk. I
Here she is !
Thanks for letting me share the build (and all the pics) with you !
Pix, it’s pure art. I think all the superlatives that apply have been used, and justifiably. One question, because I’m facing those same Eduard flaps (and with considerably less confidence than you, I have no doubt). I think I asked you this early in the build, but what did you use for a rod to go through the pivot holes on those fragile flap ribs? The instructions say use plastic rod, but the holes are about big enough from my perspective to fit a thick hair. Even if I could find plastic rod that thin, it seems too flimsy to hold the flaps up, which I guess isn’t the function of the model rods, but rather to be to scale, and a little subtle touch of CA should hold the flaps on. But what was your solution? The result needs no explaining: It’s perfect.

Thanks woodbeck, obiwan, saltydog, and sharkskin !
woodbeck - I put a lot of time into my builds. I’m disabled, so that means many hours “at the bench” every day. There are probably 60 - 80 hours in this build.
obiwan - it’s a great kit except for the lower wing/fuselage bottom seam. It runs through the fabric area, and is difficult to clean. Mine had a gap that I filled with a styrene strip. I have two other Hurries as well. A Mk IIc, and a IId (with the 40 mm cannons !).
saltydog - the wheel wells are my favorite part of this build. NOTHING looks more like metal than Alcad !
sharkskin - I used 0.015 Micro solder for the rod in the flaps. Pinch it between your thumb & finger and pull. This will straighten it out. Even if the holes aren’t aligned exactly, it can be easily bent to go through all the holes and still look straight. Make sure that the ribs are securely glued to the flap. They’re easy to dislodge and loose. Hope this helps.
