How many hours per day/week do you model?

Just curious how much time you put in on modeling, (realizing that this can vary from day to day, week to week and season to season).

I can sometimes spend 1 to 1.5hrs at night, after everyone is in bed, during the summer (unless I’m in the middle of watching the entire Battle Star Galactica series on Netflix, don’t ask[8-|]), maybe a little more in the winter. The downside is that I’m very tired at night and know my attention to detail is lacking.

Only 4-5 hours tops, its usually broken into very small sessions here and there, not usually more the 30 min at a time.

It depends, because I go in spurts. Right now, I haven’t been at my bench for over 2 weeks, because in the summer, I’d rather be outside. But when I do go on a jag, I’ll spend 2 1/2 to 3 hours at a stretch at the bench. Exception is when I use the time in the morning before I go to work, then it’s only about half an hour.

When winter comes around, I’ll have more sessions at the bench, because I’ll be inside more, but the length of the sessions will be about the same.

eh…it probably averages out to about an hour to an hour-and-half. Some days I have a lot of time between classes and little homework, so I can model for a couple or more hours that day, but the next might have more classes and activities so I maybe get an hour in spurts. Other days I have no time to model.

An hour a day would probably be the best overall answer, but I can get a lot done in that time. [:D]

Summer hours vary wildly for me. There are only 2-3 nights a week that I’m not on a ball field, then add in yardwork, vacation etc. I probably manage 2-3 hours per week right now, including weekends. After fall weather hits (starting to feel it at night already! [:@]) I’m guessing 7-10 per week.

Never enough!!

I believe it - when he’s not actually building a model… he is a professional hand model.

I normally get to build 4 nights a week and have as much time as i want from when i get in from work to when i hit the sack. usually i get in about 3 or 4 hours. Unforunatly, i don’t get to build at weekends or when i am off work.

Now Zero !

Depending on several factors (kids, wife, how tired I am, etc), 2 to 3.5 hours per night, after the kids are asleep.

The sucky thing is the next morning…but I’ve found I do a lot better on 4-5 hours of post-modeling sleep than I do on 8 if I skip the bench. That decompression time leads to MUCH better rest in quality, if not quantity.

Yeah I was going to comment that “summer” & “Canada” are sort of an oxymoron. What is that, like one or two weeks? [:D]

I so agree with your statement. The bench-time is my “me time.” My wife knows that I am a better person after a few moments at the bench. That time however is getting shorter and shorter. I am a morning person and my family is not. Saturday and Sunday mornings, they sleep late, and I have about 3 quiet hours each for my models. However, lately with this heat, early mornings have been lawn care time.

So I say on average, sadly, < 5 hours weekly, if that.

It really depends if I can get the model mojo up. It’s either zero hours per week, or 12-24 hours. I can’t get anything done in 30 minutes. I do most of my building between 9:00 pm to 2:00 am, as I find it easier to concentrate without distractions. I can do this for up to two weeks at a time, but I get pretty punchy at the end. I seem to require this work schedule in order to actually finish a model. I save noisy and dusty work, like grinding resin for daytime. I paint in the evenings, as it is a lot cooler, and I’m not blinded by the glare from the yard. The cats hate it though, as I paint in the patio where they sleep at night. And yes, I move their little kitty boxes far away from the work table to avoid poisoning them! They still get annoyed at me and give me blinky-blinky eyes when the painting goes past 10:00 pm.

Much as I want, not as much as I can…

Not enough.

Under a couple hours a week.

I try to squeeze in at least an hour and a half a day if possible (weekdays). Sometimes on weekends I can get in 3 or 4 during the entire day.

Sure wish I had more time for the bench though…

Right now, my Air brush is broken, so there’s not much activity, as there is around 4 models I’d like to finish off and clear up the bench. The remainder of my WIPs are all in the dreaded sanding stage if the build and are just trying my sanity… [:D]

Summer kills me and my soul…I only get a few hours a week.

Come winter (after deer season), anywhere from 4 to 16 hours a day.

If I get the job I’m going for, starting this fall, I won’t have time for much of anything and my soul will shivel up and die. The money will be great, and after I’m “in the door”, I can likely transfer over to flying the pipeline. Then my soul may come back!

I am lucky to get 30 min per day during the week, usually after everyone is in bed, but I’m dead tired myself. I try to get up early on the weekends and I might get 2 hrs before the demands of the family hit me.
