how do you display your models ?

I have a short shelf for my kits, and its getting shorter … [:)]

I started in May this year, have 5 models finished and I am looking for some ideas of how to display my kits.

How do you display your finished models ?

There supposed to be finished??? If I built at the rate you are I’d have to build a pole building next to the house to display.all of the ones I have sitting on the shelf. Start out small, a nice bookcase or wall mounted shelf is always good. If you use a bookcase try to put a small light so your models aren’t sitting back in the dark.

I have a peg board wall in my shop that most of them hang on. A few at a time go in the house.

I have a mixture of glass display cases and bookshelves that I use to display my models. Some of them also get hung from the ceiling or mounted to the wall in a couple of different ways.

This PBY has two rods mounted parallel inside the wing, which acts as a receiver for the wall hanger made of steel rod.

The KC-135 is mounted to a plaque which hangs on the wall.

A steel rod wrapped with some decorative chanille to replicate a vapor trail. The rod is inserted in to the wall after drilling a pilot hole into the wall stud.

A simple wire looped over a screw, stuck into a hole under the aircraft.

This 1:72 EC-121 is mounted sideways on the wall. Hung on a picture hanger using fishline.

Love that vaopt trail, Gerald! That’s one cool idea.

I use a deltof (or Detolf, dang swedes, lol) display cabinet from ikea

Best $60 for display

I hope we get an Ikea here someday, we have just about everything else!

I have 3 glass display cases that I picked up years ago from a defunct jewelry store. Two of them hold about 70 1/48 models each & the third has about 80 1/72 models. The rest of my collection is stored in dust tight containers, but not on display.

Regards, Rick

Display case I bought from a store that was closing for $5.

Shelving and hanging from the ceiling. I’ve been adding additional glass shelves to the existing wall units as time goes by to increase display space. I also sell a lot of completed builds.

Swanny do you pay someone to dust all of those? Quite impressive but I wouldn’t want to try and keep the dust off of all of them.

I wish I could make the Model Elf do the dusting but he simply refuses. Sadly every now and then I have to take a day away from building and go through the whole collection dusting. They are all due for it now, good thing I have a four day weekend comng up.

I have two cases like Gigatron from Ikea (picked up at a garage sale for $10 each) and a little fancier one made of oak. I live in a somewhat dusty environment so it’s mandatory to keep them under glass. Since I build 1/72 if I was having to constantly dust them I’d probably be breaking off radio aerials and other small bits on a regular basis.

Plus the glass protects them from the three cats that terrorize my hobby room.

Wow! Just looking at some of these pictures makes me want to stop by for a visit to admire so many great builds!

After I suffered a modeling disaster last year (some shelving gave way and took a bunch of planes with them), I invested in a nice curio cabinet in which to store several of the survivors plus any new builds. I have a few that are too big for the cabinet occupying a couple of top shelves (a must with a 20-month-old in the house) of some IKEA bookshelves. My hangers are all in my garage model shop. I am also planning something similar to the one above who hangs them from pegboard, although what I’m going to do is finish a nice piece of wood, affix a copper or acrylic rod, and mount the model; the result will be a wall plaque featuring a particular airplane model. First up for this is my recently-completed F-14, although I haven’t finished the plaque.

As for me, i’ve only got but a few glass shelves. But due to my slow pace and schedule, they still remain relatively empty

I have a couple of models hanging from the ceiling and a few on some shelves. They require constant dusting to keep them clean but that’s part of model building.

Mine sit on top of a bookshelf in the basement[:(]

I need to prowl around for some stores going out of business… Those are the way to go!

Thank you all for sharing ! It has been a great inspiration ! So many ideas !!!

I like those glass shelfs with mirrors - duh… I just gave up a great mirror (probobly worth a lot of money but … did not see any use …do not you have this feeling when you give up, throw out, something the next day you wish to have it back because you just find a perfect fit for the thing ?)

Thanks for the inspirations !!

Well, if I could actually finish a model, then I could answer this question [:-^].

I have a custom case on my wall for 1/72 stuff, 1/35 armor just gets a regular shelf since its easier to dust. This is from a few years ago, and is much more full now, I may have to invest in some of those Ikea cabinets. The store displays are also a great idea.
