There was another pic of a similar design, two women, I think, at HKN as well. Both are pretty cool. Hope Two Bobs comes out with a few of the new nose art that is seen on hleos now.

Yep - he had to have gotten them from HKN because I took those photos and that’s the only place I posted them.

If TWO BOBS never get a chance to produce those decals by the time I get to my Sea Knight…could I get that birds art & info from you?..It will ( at this rate ) be the winter of 2005 by the time I get started on my Ch46-E.

I reread my post and even to me it sounded like I was being a jerk. I didn’t mean it that way. If I didn’t want people to see them I wouldn’t post them on the net. I lot of my walkarounds are posted on ARC for all to see. I’ll get this entire walkaround up eventually but I’m plagued by a horribly slow connection right now.
The squadron was/is HMM-364 “Purple Foxes” pictures were taken during their current deployment to Iraq. I have all the details, buno, side number, cmplete enough walkaround to do all of the markings. Drop me a note when you are ready to build.
For commericial production, I want to give OneBob first chance even knowing he can get backlogged. I gave him all of the info for his AH-1W sheet and know what a great job he will eventually do.

That is sweet!! Supercobra I was attached to the “Purple Foxes” back in the day when we were doing a special program called “Sea Dragon” and “Dragon Warrior”. Met a lot of great people there! We were attached to them for nearly a year (My parent squadron being HMH-462). It was a wierd deal we were doing for what I believe they called the “Battle Tank” (a kind of war think tank) and we were outfitting our helos with special equipment and doing all kinds of neat little wargames and such. The commodant would fly out personally to El Toro and Camp Pendleton to check on our progress. It was a fully reinforced squadron, we were really a MEU of sorts.
Do they still talk about those days? It was a great time, and one I will never forget. I actually changed my address on my driver’s license to “HMM-364”…lol It was great fun, and a shame that we all had to go back to the regular squadron. [V]
However, when I did go on a MEU they at least sent all of the “Purple Fox Guys” to the boat, so we were all comfortable working together. I just missed those crazy Foxes…we had to roll with 164…that is another story all together…lol

I did some of that. A few mission for Hunter-Warrior and Urban-Warrior, part of the Commandant’s new (at that time) Warfighting Lab. Was a skid guy but not with the 364 SPMAGTF. I believe that was in the 1995 time frame. Never got to float with 364 but they are a good squadron with a proud history.

Who is the artist? It sure looks like the work ( or style) of one of the cartoonist that was involved in the first ‘Heavy metal’ or Lord of the rings animated films.

SWEET DEAL!!! That is exactly what I was talking about. It has been sooo long…lol I got out in '99. I was with the 364 SPMAGTF late’96 to mid '97. Man it has been so long, all of these names comin back…lol The Warfighting lab is what I was talking about…it was all the uproar back in that time, and then kinda faded away. It was a wierd deal because we were supposed to go out on ship, but we couldn’t get a ship so we had to simulate it at Camp Pendleton. We referred to it as USS Camp Pendleton. We actually had to stay in the recruit barracks with the open squad bays, right in the same one I was in during my stay in boot camp. We got to take some awesome pics of recruits getting worked over in the pit and such. It was kinda funny being near the recruits, and their drill instructors shouting for them to make way for “real Marines!”. I was mostly night crew so my fondest memory is coming in around 4:30 in the morning in my NCOIC’s car, recruits lined up for a hump, and him blasting the low rider song as we pulled up. The look on their faces was priceless. It’s great to share memories with all the Marines on the forum! Thanks for the walk down memory lane…BTW, do they still have the stuffed fox? [:D][:p][;)]

I wouldn’t call it a rip-off. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery. Take a look at nose art throughout history and you will see that it immitates popular images of the time. Does look great though.
Motivation is always good, especially when away from home.
Supercobra…saw you guys were nailed with a pretty hefty sandstorm the other day.
I did some cruises with 162 and 263 a couple years back, and was priveledged to see some really cool art on the armor of some of those planes. I got a pic of a 53E that was on the Bataan on the way over to OIF with the name “Disposable Heroes”. I’ll see if I can find and post. Also, I was wondering, if this art makes it to decal form via Twobobs, do the guy(s) who painted it get any credit?
Two Bobs will give credit to the designers if they are told who painted it. That is usually the hard part, IDing the artist when it is usually a guy in the unit who can paint and he has PCSed and the current guys can’t remember his name, etc. They gave some credits on their Whiskeys in the Mix AH-1W decals.
It wasn’t too bad… unless you were outdoors or flyng!!!
I gave Bob the name of the artist for W’s in the Mix sheet. I couldn’t find the name for these. One problem is that the aircraft stay and the units rotate. These armored panels could have been with three different squadron tail letters (side numbers usually don’t get repainted) and even moved from aircraft to aircraft within a squadron. In fact, since these pictures were taken shortly after the turnover between two squadrons, the new squadron may have painted over it by now (assuming they inherited it). It is just a snapshot in time.
To answer the question on how it reproduces in 1/48, the nose art on the Cobra turned out pretty good and these panels are a lot bigger than the Cobra nose.
