Hobby lobby does it again!

Made a run to the store and found some nice clearance models. $200 dollars worth for just over $55.

You all may want to take a look, although clearance is usually local based.

I’ve never been inside of one, the closest one is about 30 min away, I pass it going to one of my work locations and alway think about stopping in but never do.

Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t know they had a clearance section. I’ll definitely be looking next time I’m in there.

Mostly cars,a few Revell planes, armor, and ship or two.A lot of times they have 40% off kits.
Just not anything I’m interested in.

Good haul though

Great Hobby Lobby haul! I’m laid up presently but will definitely get over there. We also had two “Ollies” open up in my area that I want to visit too.

That is a great score for that price. I figure you paid for the Hideout truck and got the rest free. Nicely done. If you’ve run out of storage space, I believe I have a bit of space available.

My wife picked me up a Vallejo set of paints (CBI Theater) for $10 in their clearance aisle just this week.

Thanks for the info, will have to go by on Monday

Are all models and/or model accessories on clearance at Hobby Lobby stores or is it just selected items that aren’t selling well?

I believe that it’s just a select few, probably the ones that have been on the shelf a long time and are collecting dust.

Yes, just a selection of them. I pretty much got one of each that was on clearance at my store, there was a malibu that i passed on. Hobby lobby does have a week that they have 40% off on models. It is usually every other or every third week.

So checked both of the ones near me and nether had any kits on clearance, even the ones pictured. My guess is only certain stores are clearanceing kits out.

You can check online for HL’s recurring sales. They will have specific sales on model kits, and also 40% discounts.
As was noted, their selection of kits is of the simpler kind, but still, they’ve got kits that are good for starters, especially kids whom you want to encourage in the hobby. And they have a decent basic selection of supplies, They even carry some airbrushes and supplies.

There are other products that are useful for us modelers, too. They have artists paints and brushes, which are useful especially for painting by hand. They have a selection of wooden plaques, and frames, which are good for bases. Basically, a good selection of hobby and craft supplies, and with some imagination, you can find things you can use.

All scale model kits are on sale for 40% off every other week at HL.

It is not a special one time thing, it happens every other week.

Just about the only place I can go to get my stuff. Got an airbrush and compressor for a very reasonable price and it works very well.

I bought my Iwata airbrush when they used to have 40% off coupons which you could use for any purchase instead of waiting for a specific sale. Oh, those were the good days…

Yes Hobby Lobby is having fewer and fewer items and kits of use for most scale modelers. About the only folks that are having a better time there are the ones who build Bandai Gundams and Star Wars kits. But even then the selection is quite limited.

Yeah, sadly Hobby Lobby had reduced their shelf space tremendously for plastic model kits. Gundam and few Star Wars kits from Bandai. Throw in a few automotive kits and then the rest seems to be either Atlantis of Lindberg kits. I did come across a “Bargain” kit at an Ollies store that recently opened near us. I found Revell’s fairly recent 1/72 scale US Navy Swift boat kit for only $12. Unfortunately, I had ordered one off Amazon this past Winter for $30.

Yeah, the Hobby Lobby near me tends to only have the following:
Star Wars
Gundam
Car kits…and more car kits and more car kits and more car kits, etc.
Planes, tanks, and ships is pretty much non-existant.

Why are car kits being stocked and built more than anything else?

Well, obviously they are not a model shop so they order what will sell. I am seeing more Gundam which has become more and more popular; Star wars which had a resurgence (especially with bandai having the license) but is now declining. I mean really, how long has it been since a new kit came out from bandai? Car kits always seems to sell and are an entry point for a lot of new modelers. Personally, i think that they should just sell tamiya products. That line has pretty much anything you would want, nice kits and easy to build.
