the topgallant yard and sail are on . but not before i broke the bowsprit mast , this plastic is so brittle .but some 1mm brass rod drilled into it , seems to be holding .
Bowsprits are the bane of every ship modeler. As is old, brittle plastic.
Looking great.
Bob
cheers bob .
now for the hanks , I’m using a technique I got from this guy on u-tube .
Your attention to detail in this build is simply jaw dropping. Well done!!
nearly lost it , broke the %^$% bowsprit mast again , talk about brittle , had to walk away , some very deep breathing , a lot of swearing later , managed to get a piece of .8mm brass rod in it .
you can see the break in this photo
anyway got the main mast top sail and yard on .
Tie a bright red ribbon or piece of yarn around the bowsprit mast. I have done this in the past and haven’t broken a bowsprit yet (knock on wood!). I also do it during transport for the same reason.
Hope that helps.
Bob
the flag pole wasn’t much good .
so I replaced it with a kebab stick .
well , all the sails are now on
Good choice - I imagine that bamboo is much stronger than the styrene.
Just amazing, it looks amazing (20 chars)
I love periodically checking in on this stunning build at the progress made
So hard to believe that at it’s core, it’s still a plastic model kit…
I couldn’t agree more. This is unlike any plastic model I’ve ever built, and the level of detail is probably ten times anything I’ve ever attempted.
What strikes me most is the sheer scope of the project. It’s almost overwhelming just looking at how much work goes into every little detail. I have a hard time imagining the patience and dedication required to see something like this through.
@steve5, I’m curious, have you kept track of how many hours you’ve invested in this build? I can’t even begin to guess!
thanks pr154 , it’s still the best plastic model ship kit going , I wish someone would bring out another 1/100 kit .
