I was down in Atlanta this past weekend and I saw some of your unit-of-choice’s herks and Hawks sitting out the latest hurricane on the Dobbins ramp. I couldn’t tell the Hawk’s colors from the angle and distance, but was still cool nontheless.
I finally found my resin front control panel, so that little delay can be overcome and I can get back in gear…

Just saw the post about the Antennae thing. The deal is Im talking only about regular old Army line unit 60s. The USAF is a different story. Guys like task force flying MH’s could have anything on there acft, but the assualt batts get pretty much the same mods and need approval from way on high to have much else. Besides we’re to poor for all that fancy stuff. hehe Anyway when is the end date for this GB ? Id like to get in, but im crunched for time at the moment. Will be better by the end of the month, so if theres enough time left I’ll dive in.someone lemme know…
BTW here is a pic or two showing the distance in inches that the gear can move during a high intensity landing (crash) and in flight. Any ?s lemme know. HTH everyone

One thing only: could you show us a bigger version of the main gear scheme. You can read “DIUS” on the left; I suppose it’s “RADIUS” and that could be very helpful.
Actually I won’t be using this information on this GB but for my BHD-Dio wich I will start, when … the next year ?!
Regarding the antennae thing: Yeah, that’s what I figured. I only know more about the AF -60s than the Army’s birds and I didn’t want to sound like I was commenting about all S-70 models.
This GB ends 1 December 04. Check out my last in progress pic post, I haven’t done a whole lot since then, so if you jump on board now, you won’t be the only one here playing catch up. [:D]

10/8/2004 - WASHINGTON – Based on feedback from the six-month wear test, Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. John P. Jumper decided to expand the current test program to include a pixelated tiger-striped pattern in a new color scheme on the proposed utility uniform.
The expansion does not involve a full test; instead, there will be a limited production to test pattern and color, said Senior Master Sgt. Jacqueline Dean, the uniform board superintendent.
”The color scheme is only one of many improvements we are testing,” Sergeant Dean said.
A small, select group of testers will wear the newest pattern. The solid tiger-striped pattern with its dominant blue overtones is gone. The latest pixelated test pattern has a more subdued color scheme and is not nearly as distinctive as the one unveiled at the start in August 2003; yet it provides the distinctiveness Airmen have requested, officials said.
“We have sufficient input from Airmen throughout the Air Force to ensure that our uniform decisions are on target with regard to wear, ease of maintenance and fit,” Sergeant Dean said. “We kept hearing throughout the test that Airmen loved the wash-and-wear feature and the fit. The design of the uniform will essentially stay the same, with minor modifications based [on] the wear-testers’ recommendations.”
General Jumper will announce the final decisions regarding the new utility uniform once the test data are analyzed and presented. Determination is expected within the next two months, officials said.
The new design represents a uniform that could be universally worn in all environments, Sergeant Dean said. The unique fit and design will remain the same, as Air Force officials said they want a distinctive uniform for Airmen that fits better and is easier and less expensive to maintain.
“There really wasn’t much that Airmen didn’t like about the design of the uniform,” she said, basing her comment on the large volume of feedback the board received via e-mail, surveys, focus groups and online questionnaires. “We really did capture what they needed and what they wanted.
“The chief of staff listened to the Airmen,” Sergeant Dean said. “We asked what they wanted in a uniform, what they needed in a uniform and, as a result, this is exactly what we’re getting.”
Well, despite an redoubling my efforts to lay into my hawk, the real army’s Blackhawks and school at night are winning the battle. The closest I’ve gotten in 4 days is seeing the box tonite from across the room. Oh well, theres always tommorow…
Anyway heres what I really wanted. Do you guys order your stuff direct from cobra or do you get it somewhere else? Instead of fixin some stuff by scratchbuilding, I might need to just let resin do the trick.

PS if anyone fixes 1/1 scale Blackhawks, I made up a set of plans for a tool to use in installing the T/R blades if anyones interested. Its probably not original but it helps speed up things when im T.I.-ing guys work
I ordered my Cobra stuff directly from him. Sent him a money order and it arrived within a week or two. And don’t worry about being busy. There’s plenty of that going around!
If anyone has the cobra UH-60 detail set, could you post a pic of the Instrument panel ( looking for detail shot of instruments, and the top or what would be seen from looking in through the windshield) or if you have the set with the inlets post a pic of those? It doesnt matter if its painted or installed or not, I’d just like to get a better look then I do from his website.

These are from his Pave Hawk set and some of the details will probably be different, but the level of quality should be the same. I’m very happy with these parts.

Thanks Trigg, I went ahead and just ordered the set. Theres is so much I’d like to change / modify / fix on this kit,but I will be lucky to just finish it. I spent all morning just looking at a pilots seat thats out on a bench getting rebuilt thinking, “yeah I could scratchbuild this…” I have some pics I will throw up here, maybe tonite when I get home.

I’ve got most of the interior put together and painted (with the anti-skid stripes painted and worn down with some dry brushing). I’m trying to get the crew (DML US Helicopter Crew, Vietnam) to fit correctly but the door gunners are giving me a few problems. I’ve installed some structure below the gunner’s windows. Finally, I scratch-built the FRIES gear and rapelling rings to busy up the cabin roof.

I’ve given up on the DML crew. I’ll try them out with those Eggs now. I started on the FRIES rig way back when…
Adrake, how are you handling the anti-skid strips? I’m thinking of just painting masking tape, trimming it to size and applying it. to the floor.
I cut stripes of masking tape about .06 inches wide then spaced them apart .10 inches and brushed on a thick coat of black paint. After it dried, I remove the tape and dry brushed Dark Gull Gray, paying attention to heavy traveled areas (i.e. gunners’ positions, spaces between the seats, etc.) so they would look worn down.
