Thanks. I am still practicing weathering on aircraft. I started off with Flory washes and then when I started to get some of AK’s products for armour, I thought I would give them a try on aircraft, and so far it has worked well.
Damn, I didn’t realise it was that long ago when I last posted. For those following this, it hasn’t vanished completely. The dio is taking a lot longer than I expected. The aircraft is finished and attached to the base. I have really cut down on my internet time to try and concentrate on this, and I reckon I am two or three days off being finished. But, I now have to get another sheet of white backing paper for the final pics as the one I have isn’t big enough. So all being well, and I know I am tempting fate here, final pics will be up next weekend.

How did I miss this one. I can’t say I’ve ever seen a Z built up. She’s a beaut Bish and great underside weathering. The HE 111 is one of my favorite bombers and I have several 1/48 Monogram kits in the stash. I’ve built one already so perhaps I’ll do another soon. I can’t wait to see this one done.

lawdog, I don’t know, how could you [;)]. As I mentioned earlier, I have built one before, the Italeri kit, but this one is much better, not only the kit, but what I am able to put into it thanks to what I have picked up from the site over the years. Its coming, I just need to tear myself away from the computer and get to it.

I have good news. Its all done. Not much more to add on the kit from tge last up date, I just added the last few small bits. As for the rest, the work benches were scratch built from balsa. The Opel Blitz is an old Esci kit and the Kubel an Academy kit. The figures are a mix, including at least one USAAF and RAF figures, and nearly all have been altered in some way.
So here’s the finished pics.

That is an excellent way to display such a large kit and avoid potential damage by an over enthusiastic dust wand wielding SWMBO [whstl]
I bought the old 1970s era release Italieri kit for $8 at a local swap meet last year…probably what the kit cost at time of release.[^o)]
I don’t know if I will put as much detail into the kit; probably resin interior and vac formed cockpit perspex if I can still find those items.
Forgive me if I missed it in a post, but how large is the display base?
Wow Bish! That’s something else man!! Great job on the plane and the dio, it all looks super. Are two hands required to move that beast? I was asking myself where one would grasp it to move it around. It is a masterful work Bish, congratulations!

Spruce, thanks. All my 72nd aircraft are built as diorama’s, I simply can’t bear the thought of them just sitting alone on a shelf. ever since I first saw Shep paine’s crashed B-17 dio, I knew that’s what I wanted to do.
No, you didn’t miss it, the base is 16x17and a half inches. It could probably do with being an inch wider, the wings are only just within it.
The Italeri kit is a nice kit, and for that price, you can’t complain. I can’t remember if the cockpits are both the same in that kit, using the Eduard PE on this one, you get two slightly different layouts.
gary, thanks, yes two hands indeed. For bases this side, I slide one hand underneath and grip an edge with the other. Its still on the bench at the moment, with just enough room left to work. It will probably go on the wardrobe in our bedroom for now, about the only space left and its up out of the way.
