Hans von Hahn's Messerschmitt Bf 109E-4 (Trumpeter 1/32)

My latest big scale aircraft is this Trumpeter one. Very good kit wtih great decals. I originally considered doing the Bulgarian version, but in the end I chose the German markings.

One neat trick that will give more life to the model, is to remove the flap lip, which will let you glue the flaps in the extended position. Slats are also dynamic.

The kit is great, except for the landing gear. Trumpeter had the bright idea of dividing the landing gear legs into a top and bottom. The bottom gets glued into the well, and the tops are added over two locating pins, which is a very loose assembly. When they dried, they were everything but aligned, so I removed one and reglued it with CA and regular modelling cement. Had it not been for this type of assembly, I would have given the kit a 10/10, but it’s a 7 for me.

This turned out to be one heckuva good looking build. Ya gotta hand it to Trumpeter for having completely over engineered landing gear for these 109’s. They did the same thing to the 1/24 scale 109 line up as well. Between that and the injector pin marks, just about anyone would have their work cut out for 'em in building these kits.

Good efforts and a great turn out.

I don’t really know why they did this on their Es, the later marks have a simpler design with a full leg.

Love it! Did you brush paint it?

Yep, all of that was by brush.

Great job on this 109! I really like the nose art on this aircraft. The Me-109 E was my favorite variant of this iconic plane.

Thanks! I personally like the K-4, it borders almost the Luft 46 world. Maybe I should whif a K?
