Greetings to all, I have returned to the hobby which I started back in the 1960’s. Now retired and building again. I would like to build contest quality models, but we’ll see as time goes by, not there yet! My interest are building space related models, maybe some aircraft, but also interested in 1950’s era pickup trucks. I have a fairly well equipped shop with a air compressor/airbrush, spray booth and a dehydrator, also two workstations as my adult son comes over for build sessions as his time permits. Getting what I would consider a contest quality paint job on the trucks has been a challenge!
Hi @Mike_C1, welcome to FSM.
We hope to see your models displayed here soon. Take your time… As for reaching the quality of courses, it mainly depends on your time and dedication.
Wow,you have been at it for awhile,welcome aboard
Well, not really, stopped before high school, so like 50+ years of not building, I feel like s beginner again, watch a lot of YouTube videos!!
Welcome to the forums! Away for awhile indeed,
. Sounds like you have a good setup to get you going. I am not much into space, unless you are including sci-fi, but I do like cars and trucks. Looking forward to seeing your work.
Welcome to the forums! I, like you, have recently returned to the hobby. To build show quality models, you need research (you tube, these forums and others), the right tools, and most of all…
Patience Take your time, reject mistakes (oh that’s good enough), and ask a lot of questions.
I can’t wait to see your builds!
Have fun!
Welcome back to the hobby! I’m a real space modeler myself! The newer kits are well-engineered compared to the ones we had back in the 60s and 70s.

Mike_C1, welcome back to the hobby and to the FSM forum! Sounds like you’ve got a great setup as far as a work shop goes and I think that it’s great that your son comes by for a build session. As with anything else in life, Practice,Practice, Practice. Good Luck in your modeling adventures.
One of the first real space models I built coming back into the hobby this past February was the 1/12th scale Mercury Capsule, I added some extra interior details to, I thought it was fair when completed but I didn’t think the kit itself was that great. Not really satisfied with my decal application. Trying to attach photos

Welcome Back. You will find many new friends here.
Father /Son building team now Thats Cool! ![]()
@Mike_C1
WELCOME! I love your ambition and that you returned. Like many of us, the theme is we built as kids/young adults then stopped for several decades then resumed again. I took 22 years off. lol.
Yep, life and money get in the way.
Welcome, Mike! I too started in the 60s, and took it up again later. In a way, I never stopped as I switched over to painting miniatures for wargames.
As for space subjects, they can get really expensive nowadays (ask me how i know)!
Gary
I know, some of the Space Odessy kits are really pricy.
@GAF
Ok. How do you know?
@itisgregory Because I’ve been browsing Ebay.

Welcome Mike! Looking forward to seeing your work. Jump on in and start posting.
Finished this ‘53 Ford pickup today, it’s my first truck. It’s certainly not the quality I hope to achieve. It’s the AMT kit I got at Hobby Lobby. Finish is gloss black, de-chromed everything and finished those with Tamiya Gun Metal. I made the wood truck bed with stir sticks.
@Mike_C1
Very well done. Love the realistic wood truck bed.
black 53 Ford pick up = Classic
