Heres some pics of an Elefant sitting rotting away on Aberdeen Proving Grounds. As I stated in an earlier post, it was supposed to have been shipped somewhere, but unfortunately has sat. Figured I would get some pics now, due to not knowing the fate of this great beast.
Gotta luv the danger sign. Those will comein handy for my build of this beast. If ya cant tell Im in the german monstertank stage at the moment.E 100, jagdtiger, kingtiger ,elephent, sturmtiger.
Always a shame to see things like this rusting away, abandoned and uncared for. Maybe the folks at Aberdeen will get around to restoring it as a piece of history as opposed to just another rusting junkheap…[:(]
Old soldiers like this deserve better treatment than rusting away in a field of weeds. Although it looks to be in rather rough shape, it certainly is not beyond restoration. Lets hope it finds a new home and some TLC, before it’s too late. Thanks for the photos Falcon.
How about we all pitch in and buy the thing and restore it…We could rotate who gets to keep it on a monthly basis…I will just tell my wife that it is the new garden tractor I ordered for mowing.
Chris, as I recall from the cobwebbed recesses of my addled mind, it is one of only two surviving Elefants. What’s weird is that I thought all Elefants had zimmerit on them. I can’t imagine that anyone would have goe to the trouble to take it all off! Really a sad thing to see it in such shape. (Wonder what the pillow is for!!!)
that is sad that there are only two left, they are around though, so hopfully someone who happens to be a history buff and who has enough money would take that one and restore to a nice working order, kind of how the tiger did recently at Bovington, as ive seen in other pics.
the sad thing is i live only an hour frmo Aberdeen in Lancaster, PA and i have yet to make a trip there maybe in the next two weeks, im gonna take the camera and take hundreds of photos to share with anyone, there are some pics on the website if anyone wants to see. http://www.ordmusfound.org/
wow, wouldnt i love to have one of those in the backyard, as someone said it certainly would intimidate the nieghbours. i wonder if aberdeen would sell it [8D]?
Just breaks your heart to see apiece of history slowly disinigrating in the elements. thanks for sharing the pics, it could be the last look we get of the real mccoy. semper fi, mike
