Fw 190 Butcher Bird 2013 (extended to June 2014) Group Build

Doug, thanks for chiming in. I am very glad I asked now. Ultra-thinning, relatively high pressure and very low paint flow isn’t something i would have considered. Now I need to work on the practice and patience part of it. [:)]

Clemens, thanks for the tute offer my friend. I looked at the exploded view, looks like a nice, straight-forward airbrush. That said, should I get one I would be most interested to learn how you clean yours, indeed.

A simply marvelous job Joe. It really is a reflection of the monumental effort you have put into it. And as far as the little issue with the lower nose, well I don’t notice a thing.

Rigidrider: Thanks Doug. It’s coming together one little bit at a time. I don’t have just a whole lot left. Canopy and aerial, cowl guns and access cover, prop and spinner and then the little stuff. Antennas and the like. Another month or so and we’ll be home. I plan on finishing a Dauntless dive bomber with my son and then its off to the D-9 that I’ll be opening up more than this one.

**Joe Rix:**Thank you as well. You probably know more about my struggle with this thing than anyone. Can’t wait to see some more pictures out of you pal.

You got it Joe. I have repaired the chips that pulled off with the tape and have applied the gloss coat. thusly the decaling can commence.

This here is what I used for the gloss coat. It’s acrylic and seems to work quite well given that I tested it on my stunt model and slathered it with Mig wash and then with turpenoid with no ill effects. Unfortunately, I had to go to the True Value Hardware store aka “The Evil Empire” to get this. It’s just that I work at Ace Hardware.

In the meantime I had a nice thing arrive in the mail. Got this from the Squadron sale:

Joe and Joe, stellar work, men.

mustangJoe: That’s gonna be one mean looking Butcher!

JOE RIX: I can’t wait to see how that camo looks when you add your finishing touches. It’ll be striking.

I absolutely must get building again. I took a lil break from it after my 190 and I’m starting to get into trouble. i pulled a TIE Fighter off the shelf and gave it some needed weathering. Took the edge off the craving but nothing like the real fix one gets from building.

Greg: It is really easy to disassemble and clean the Evolution, but I got some hints at my LHS how to make things even easier!

Joe (Rix): Your 190 is looking really good! I found some decals for that camo-scheme in 1/48, so I think I have to get me an F-8 as well (Eduard 1/48 Weekend)

Thanks Bill. You should grab another 190 and build. I may end up extending this build for a couple of months so I can work in my D-9. There is some great participation here and good people here so its making my decision to extend it a bit even more tempting.

I know I haven’t posted in a while, but I have been checking in every so often. Still some stunning work going on in here, great to see the GB is going strong.

Mustang, that’s looking really nice. For a difficult build, you are defiantly getting a gem out of it.

JOE, love that paint scheme. I saw that on the decal sheet, I might have to try that one day.

I think I have enough kits to participate in this GB, even if you extend it for a whole year:

  • Eduard Fw 190A-8/R2 (on the bench)
  • Eduard Fw 190A-8
  • Eduard Fw 190D-9 Weekend
  • Eduard Fw 190D-9
  • Eduard Fw 190D-11
  • Hasegawa Fw 190A-5 w/ staff car
  • Tamiya Fw 190A-3
  • Dragon Ta 152C-0
  • Zoukei Mura Ta 152H (still have to buy that one)

Bring it on bro. My bets on the Tamiya though. Nice and easy build. The ZM. Not a chance if you want to pull a nice build off on that one. Those are sweet kits though. One of these days I’ll talk the wife into one. I think ZM is trying to come up with an A version sometime in the future. They are supposedly gathering information off of an A these days.

A radial version would be really awesome! Especially with all that interior detail ZM is providing with their kits! (like a big Eduard 190!)

I’m going to build all Eduard kits simultaneously as soon as I finish those Thunderbolts.

One things for sure. You’ll definitely have the hang of Eduard 190’s!

Thank You Very Much Gentlemen.

Hey Bish, How have you been doing? It’s great to hear from you. Saw your Me 262 over in the 1/72 GB. Excellent work. Given that Joe is going to extend this GB (hint, hint) I may build Hasegawa’s 1/72 D-9 and also cross it over to the 1/72 GB.

See, I KNEW he lived in a mansion.

And I knew that he lives in a time zone that has 48 hrs per day.

Morning All!

Gotta get caught up here… Joe R, Man what a busy scheme that is! Ialso saw the decal sheet with that color pattern and its going to look great when you finish! Silly putty is the way to go!

Clemens… You really are bit with the Eduardtosis! I’ll be starting mine this week some time I hope.

Bill, you just cant help it now…, The glue fumes are inhaled and soak into your skin and thats it… Its in you now and it drives the urge to build! Finishing one eases the pang but before the last touch up paint and fiddly part is applied your already thinking of the next project!(ha)

Guys… I just got back from the LHS and OMG!!! The owner (He knows my weakness for WW2 aircraft and Luftwaffe in perticular) walked me to the store room and opened a box (I hate him so much) and pulled out a 1/32 HE111!!! Revell of Germany, various versions can be built, including a torpedo carrier!

This kit is going to sell for about $80bucks! Fuse approx 18in, wing span approx 24 in… I think he knew I was hooked by the drooling maybe? Also (not yet arrived) he has several 1/32 B-17s comming! approx 36in wingspan! They will sell for about $260.00. Guess I better start saving my sheckles! Also better plan on buildind a bigger dog house! (lol)

Take care guys!

Doug

Bill: Nope, no mansion. Just a medium sized flat in an old building in vienna (4th floor). I can’t afford a mansion with all those models on by wishlist… [:P]

Joe: My timezone has 24 hours, but I just go to bed really late (3-4 AM). Building time is from 10 PM to 2 AM.

So here is a question to you: What are you guys even talking about?

Doug: Yep, I need help… Do you know any doctor with experience regarding Eduartosis? [;)]

Sorry Clemens… No cure… you just have to keep building to keep the cravings to a minimum. Sorry, (ha)

Doug, Not sure if you have checked out the latest Squadron sale but, they have the Revell 1/32 HE-111P on sale for $41.29. Sale ends tonight.

Thats a friggin STEAL!! If I built 32nd scale stuff all the time I’d be on that like a rat on a cheetoe!!
