Thanks Bakster, I have found that a old bit in a soldering iron is the best way to show damage just can’t be scared to do it.
Been working on the base some its a slow job since I’m using gorilla glue it takes a long time to cure and you have to clamp it but when its set it’s there for good. Here is some photos of the base so far let me know what you think. I’m going for a Echo base scene.
I dug in the spare parts bin and pulled out some interesting things for the observation room behing the Falcon
started building the generator from spare parts too
Hey Clint, Echo Base will look awesome! I can’t wait to see you pull that together. I love that scene with all the ice formations and such. So far, so good.
Using Sculptamold I started making the cave area and hanger for the snow speeder. the rounded back wall got hit with some stone texture paint then a coat of Tamiya primer over that. Hard to see in the photos but I have the hanger and cave lit also the landing lights.
First thing was subassemblies made, primed with Tamiya grey primer. Then the same mix of Tamiya White and Deck Tan that was used on my falcon was sprayed on. The cockpit was painted with Vallejo German Grey and Olive Drab. The light Grey on the upper surface was painted a mix of Vallejo German Grey an Light Grey. Next the front and rear panels was drilled out and 66 fiber optic strands was added. I flare the ends out by getting the end close to my old soldering iron.
Then it was all glued togeather with the fiber optics strung from the bottom hole I drilled into it.
I took a micro razor saw and opened up the cockpit and gave the entire model a dark pin wash.
Last some panels was picked out with a grey Mig filter and some with a brown.
Hey Clint, all I can say is, WOW! Man … you are are doing fantastic work. The detailed work you did on the snowspeeder is really nice and it looks great!
I have a question for you. Why did you flare the fiberoptic? Are you doing that to increase the diameter of them? If yes… how will that affect the light output? I am working on a project where I’d like to simulate instrumentation. This might help me along those lines.
Thanks for posting your work. I am learning some things from you and it’s fun watching it come together. Keep it up.
I was having trouble figuring the size of your echo base, then pops up the pic with your gloved hand. Holy C3PO, that thing is huge! (the base, not your hand).
Thanks for your kind words. Yes I flare the ends of the fiberoptics for two reasons, one it makes them brighter and two more area keeps them from pulling out the back. I forgot to say but I also used Modge Podge to lock them in super glue will destroy them.
Just a quick update wanted to show the Falcon and Snowspeeder on the base. The groundwork is the same as the cave Sculptamold mixed a bit more wet with Krycell Precision ice and snow sifted on top of it then the Falcon pushed into the wet groundwork to lock it down good to the base.
So I got all the electric hooked up and it all works first try! Started adding the thick conduit to the walls and floors. Next I will start weathering it and trying to figure out clutter and where the figures will be.
