FineScale Modeler WWI Aeroplane Group Build 2013

Hello everyone,

Aaron and I have been discussing running a group build and thought we’d throw this one out there. Aaron and I are both fans of old flying machines, I haven’t built a biplane in many years, and he is looking for a chance to publicly humiliate me. So, why not, I say!

Basically, airplanes that were flown in the Great War from 1914-1918 are eligible. The build will start on March 1 and run through July 31. That way it keeps me and Aaron working rather than procrastinating. Which we will do. And it also keeps it manageable.

To start off, I’ll build a Wingnut Wings Fokker D.VII (Albatros), and Aaron will build a Wingnut Wings Fokker D.VII (OAW).

If anyone is interested in signing up, give us a shout and let us know what you’re gonna build. There’re plenty of kits out there to choose from. If we get five or six guys who are interested, we’ll look into getting a badge made and get us moving.

Note: Sorry, but the WWI Aeroplane GB is now closed to new entrants.

Tim

I have a WNW DH9A to build, sign me up.

Sweet!

I’ve had an Eduard Sopwith Baby mocking me from the pile for some time now. Count me in.

All right, Greg, you’re in. Is that kit 1/48 scale?

That is correct, Sir.

Cool.

Well that’s two victims … er … participants. Three more and it’s a party!

Tim: I’ve got a couple of 1/48th biplanes around somewhere - a Sopwith Snipe and either a Nieuport or SPAD (I remember it’s French!). I said I wouldn’t be entering anymore GBs this year but I dunno, this could be a fun change of pace. Please put me down as a provisional, I’ll see if I can hunt one of the kits up and make up my mind this weekend…

Gamera,

You’re in as a maybe.

WW1 isn’t normally my thing. But i got an 0/400 for my birthday. I am going to do it my my Gift GB, so if cross overs are ok, put me down. Its the Airfix 1/72nd kit.

As I am working on my 4th entry to Tigerman’s “Steel cats” GB, I have been thinking of what will be next. So before I considered myself officially in a rut [:P]… I’m in for a WNW Albatros D.Va.

hmmmm… I’m tempted to join as I’ve many options in the stash. Time is the main thing, I’ll get back with more definite answer in a month or so.

regards,

Jack

C’mon, it’ll be fun.

No way I’m passing up this one Tim! Been currently working on WnW’s D.VII (the Alb. version - you’re gonna love building it!) for Bish’s Gift GB. You can pencil me in here with an Eduard 1/48 Fokker Dr.I.

Ok, I found my kits. Tim please put down with a 1/48th Eduard Nieuport 17.

Merci!

Alright, I’m in - I’ll just have to juggle around a few other GB’s that have longer due dates.

Haven’t picked the exact kit yet, but it will be an Eduard 1/48 Albatros in Austrian markings.

Also did a little badge work, mainly finding an appropriate font for the era. Still can shift sizes/positions around and likely add some aircraft recognition insignia. Is the Finescale logo required to be present?

regards,

Jack

You should run a story in the mag featuring the GB. You’re the editor so you will have to work on the title…,

“All you subscribers, join the forum and not only will you become better modelers with all the great advise and the supplies from our advertising that are now getting increased exposure and we can help the economic in Wisconsin with our bonuses at the end of the year and maybe one day your models will grace the pages of the best modelling magazine out there”

Hey… it’s just a first draft**[whstl]**

Jack: Like it! Only thing I’d change it I somehow prefer ‘Great War’ over ‘World War I’ - I dunno- just me I guess.

Marc: Lol!

All right! It looks like we have a group build. Welcome, officially to everyone.

Jack - I like where you’re headed. We do want the FSM logo in it. We have a couple of ideas that we’ll whip up too and post them out for you guys to take a look at.

Ruddratt - Great! Can’t wait to get going.

Tim, could you add my Airfix 72nd 0/400 to the roster.
