I’m going to do a scheme from the 355th fighter wing at the Davis-Monthan Air Force base in Arizona (I think).

I hath returned folks. Tried stripping the paint with water but no bueno, so $100 of isopropyl alcohol from every store in a 20 mile radus and the dragon wagon is soaking, some paint came off just from pooring it on, so good sign. Im going to have to rotate some patts because i dont have enough to cover them all, so ill give it 6ish hours till i do that, ill update if anything crazy happens

Looking great, my first jet was the A-10. Such a beautiful bird.

How are you planning to paint it?

I’ve found that IPA on a towel pretty much just wipes the paint right off. (I learned this the hard way without actually wanting to remove the paint) so I doubt you need to soak for long.

Not wanting to hijack this post, just an observation.

You know it’s kind of funny but when I got to see my first B-17 in person, I noticed that it was much smaller than I had originally thought. I’m not sure where that puts me on the “glass half full / half empty” scale, but it’s an interesting consideration on differing viewpoints and perspectives.

In order to keep this on topic, everyone here is doing really good work on these kits. None of them are really simple starter kits and the workmanship is strong. Well done everyone.

Agreed, also, one F-15 can carry the same payload as 3 or 4 B-17s I believe. And isn’t even talking about speed, crew, range etc. Amazing how fast things changed in 30 years.

Something that made extremely short work of my paint and primer was acetone free nail polish remover ( emphasis on acetone free ). No soaking. Moist, soft scrubbing. The paint tears down effortlessly and in pieces. Absolutely has to be free of acetone since it would damage the plastic. I don’t know how it reacts to CA or PVA glue however.

But god, the smell was bad. Even a single drop has such a strong scent. Wonder how our ladies do it.

Updoot for yall, paint came off wonderfully in most places in only a few minutes, i let it soak overnight to be absolutely sure everything, including primer, came off and back to bare plastic. Paint either rubbed or fell off and primer was washed off by running it under the sink in the cow barn. (My steer insisted on smelling the washed parts, apparently it got his approval. ) I let the cab and trailer soak for a few more hours to get the paint that wasnt submerged off, but that should come off quickly and i hope to reprime tonight.

Have not worked on it in awhile. I’m gonna add the machine gun on top, and maybe add the figure. I haven’t finished the fugue yet, and might not add it cause it lacks a bit of detail. Put some more dust/ dirt on tank, and i’m gonna add some more rocks and pebbles on the terrain.

You guys are making amazing progress!

@Tactical_Tism, glad to see the Dragon is back in form. Pre-shading looks good.

@hiker5452, keep it up. The Warthog is coming along splendidly.

@kombobulator, you look like you’re almost done. What a great build. Let me know when you’re finished and I’ll add a beauty shot of your scene to the initial post.

Six days left! Let’s make them count!

I finished primer today.

Tonight has been a night spent painting and building subassemblies. The parts are wood and need a small amount of sanding. Sometimes a knife helps things along.

Nicely done! You have bounced right back.

I got the first coat of paint on today. I ran out of decanted spray paint and decided to just use it straight from the can and I think it turned out okay. I decanted more for tomorrow.

Two solid hours in the workshop. It doesn’t look like much, but it’s actually a big step toward the end result. Lots of painting that slows assembly.

Looks like it is coming together perfectly.
