Favorite Korea, Nam, Cold War, or Gulf War Movie.

I had to chime in with this guys. There are alot of great post WWII movies and here is my list.

Platoon,

Iron Eagle I and II,

Hamburger Hill,

Full Metal Jacket,

The Green Berets with John Wayne which I think was the very first Viet Nam war movie,

Top Gun,

Stealth,

Bat 21,

Flight of the Intruder.

“Platoon” (I’ve heard that North Vietnamese generals said this film struck a chord of accuracy to them. I love and hate this brutal movie. To this day, because Tom Beringer is such a damn good actor, I cannot separate him from that character, “Barns”. My stomach turns when I see 'em in any other movie! I want to avenge Elias! Damn!

The Dear Hunter (Be sure to clear three or four days that are needed to recover from this flick. It’s MAJOR-GENERAL powerful, violent and insane!)

Flight of the Intruder (This movie is such a kick in the pants! Luv it!)

Bridges of Toko Ri (Really neat-o film of the ‘forgotten war’ (Korea) and great yarn to enjoy. Plus, this has Grace Kelly in her primo ‘salad’ days. What a looker!)

Like Trexx…gotta say The Deer Hunter. I felt like someone punched me in the gut after watching that one. Powerfull stuff!!

Jerry

The Korean War films really bothered me as a kid…all brutal and hopeless seeming. There are a half dozen lower-budget films out there on the subject. No flag waving…just brutal for the times.

Pork Chop Hill with Greg Peck still stands up pretty well though.

Many ‘cold war’ films to discuss…it might take another topic!

Bat 21

Flight of the Intruder

Fail Safe-still sends a chill when I watch it.

The Bedford Incident

Crimson Tide

don’t forget about Fire Fox, Three Kings and Red Dawn

Well, I have to put my [2c] in here and add “Apocalypse Now” to the list, along with all the gretas previosuly mentioned.

Lot’s of good ones named so far, but my favorite Korean War movie is missing…

M.A.S.H. [:D]

The Bridges at Toko-Ri has some ecxellent live real aircraft shots, Panthers I think, but I haven’t seen too many of the others besides Top Gun.

I second that[#toast]

As to the Gulf War, American Soldiers is one i have watched more than once, and every time i finish it, i feel exhausted. It is not a long movie and it only portrays one day (based on true events), but the never ending pursuit of the American troops and their struggle to stay ahead of the enemy and stay alive just never seems to end.

Boomer…

Gulf War- only saw Leatherneck but I liked it.

Cold War- Dr. Strangelove, Strategic Air Command, any/all of the spy movies from Britain like Ipcress File. I guess The Right Stuff would count.

Vietnam- whew; Apocalypse, FMJ, and Go Tell The Spartans.

Korea- Manchurian Candidate, Toko Ri.

It’s weird the first time I saw Deer Hunter I loved it, the second time I hated it so I agree w/trexx it’s a heavy.

I like all of your other picks too except a couple; all great movies.

The best Korean War movie is The Hunters, made in 1958, with Robert Mitchum, Robert Wagner, Richard Egan, and the beautiful May Britt. Simply awesome scenes of F-86s tangling with MiGs. And who was May Britt maried to? The legendary one and only Sammy Davis, Jr.!

Oops forgot. The best Gulf War movie, The Three Kings.

Korea = Bridges at Toko Ri

Viet Nam = Green Berets and Flight of the Intruder

Cold War = the 3 S.A.C. movies, Strategic Air Command, Bombers B-52 and A Gathering of Eagles for reasonably serious movies and Dr Strangelove for comedy.

My Favorites in no particular order:

Korean War- Pork Chop Hill. Gregory Peck is just one of the best actors, ever.

Vietnam- 84 Charlie MoPic. Stunning first person view of the battlefield, through the camera of a combat photographer.

Cold War - The Right Stuff. Great movie about the space race with the Soviets.

Post Cold War- Black Hawk Down. Gritty film about a little known conflict.

Bat 21. Any movie starring a Cessna Skymaster is a winner in my book!

Korea; I have no favorite movie, and it’s been awhile since I watched one

Vietnam; Hamberger Hill was a little too much right except for one really major mistake in the cast

Cold War; The Hunt For The Red October

Mid East; Blackhawk Down

gary

At least nobody said “Iron Eagle”.

Korea: The only ones I remember are Porkchop Hill and MASH

Vietnam: BAT 21, (been to their squadron building and grabbed a patch form the 42nd TEWS)

Operation Dumbo Drop

Cold War: Hunt For Red October

Altho M.A.S.H is supposed to be a Korean war Movie, it’s actually an Anti-Vietnam war movie.
