It’s been suggested by others wiser than I that all good war movies are anti-war movies, and all good anti-war movies are war movies.
Howard and I always liked Ice Station Zebra.
The Bedford Incident, as stated before, is a good one.
Dr. Strangelove
The Green Beret.
The original Manchurian Canditate with Frank Sinatra…Had to be pulled from the 1963 Christmas release…guess why.
Lets not forget
The Final Countdown…F-14 v. Zero
The Day After…during the heat of the Pershing II missle deployment in Europe.

“Good Morning Vietnam”! I remember the radio station, but the main character was gone by the time I hit country, but a buddy of mine remembers him well. Our voice was Chris Noel, and I can still here her say “goodnight I-Corps.”

Interesting thread. Hope I can add some of my favorites that are a little different.
Korea: Bridges at Toko-Ri, The Hunters, Fixed Bayonets, All the Young Men, One Minute to Zero, Pork Chop Hill
Viet Nam: China Gate, Go Tell the Spartans, Flight of the Intruder, The Odd Angry Shot
Cold War: Strategic Air Command, Bombers B-52, Fail Safe, The Bedford Incident, The Mouse That Roared, The Manchurian Candidate (original version)
Post-Cold/Gulf: Three Kings, Blackhawk Down , Crimson Tide, Courage Under Fire
OH come on Guys!
I can’t believe no one yet mentioned ‘We were Soldiers’?? I believe that has to be one of the finest films depicting the Viet Nam war.
Now ‘FMJ’ gives me flashbacks to my boot camp days at MCRD San Diego in 71’ everytime I watch it.
Scott
trexx did you know that Bridges of Toko Ri was written by James A. Mitchner Admiral USN Ret.
Which reminds me of another movie based on his “Tales of the South Pacific”- the musical “South Pacific” which is a favorite of mine, and also the altime best PBY movie (although yes it’s WW2)
Squeakie, did you ever catch Dave Rabbit’s show?
here are some good ones
Rambo: First Blood
Rambo: First Blood part 2
Rambo: First Blood part 3
Lots of good ones listed, a couple, well… [:D]
Not listed that are on my list are
I don’t know the name, but there was a great Korean war movie focused on an F86 squadron. Anyway when I was a kid I thought it was great. Never seen it as an adult and have no idea what it was called.
Uncommon Valor, Gene Hackman leading a raid to free POWs in Vietnam.
The Final Option, SAS vs anti-nuke eco terrorists. The ending is clearly inspired by the SAS assault to free hostages in the Iranian embassy ('79?)
Tears of the sun, this was a lot better than I expected.
That name dosn’t ring a bell with me. Was he the guy that did the “oldies” segment on the radio (Saturday night)? Surprisingly radio Hanoi came in just as strong as the regular radio if you were on a hill top (as well as Chicom).
