F-100C

I think I found the scheme I’m going to use to do my 1:48 Trumpeter F-100C.

Though I’ll give her some burnt metal effect like this one.

I just learned that I got the last one available from Sprue Brothers, glad I preordered when I did. There won’t be anymore available for a while…those who missed the opportunity of preordering them will have to wait awhile longer to get theirs. From what I have seen everyone is already out of stock. [#oops]

Mmmmm, yummy. Great looking paintjob youve chosen. Will be interesting to see it come to fruition.

…Guy

Can wait to get ahold of one. The $$$$ of them kits is plain nuts, to me. I’ll find one at contest for under $30 in a few years!!!

Make sure you put up some pics, I never tire of seeing your NMF’s!

That will be a nice looking plane.

The scheme should make an interesting model. Looking forward to your build.

Regards, Rick

Now that I’ve finally rounded up some of the old Monogram 100-D’s, Trumpy releases these guys.

Always the way, isn’t it? [banghead]

Ah yes, I too have ordered the 100 thru my LHS… So looking forward to building it. Definitely she will be dressed in the 136th TFG outta Niagara Falls NY…

Either this NMF bird…

Or as they appeared in Vietnam and back Stateside…

Flaps up,

Mike

Let’s hope your LHS preordered it as soon as the distributors were accepting preorders, otherwise chances are you’re going to be waiting a while. I don’t think we’ll see any more until the Trumpeter ships their Nov releases. It costs too much to ship small quantities, distributors try to fill whole containers to get the best bang for their buck. I know I too would like a second one, to do in a heavily worn camo scheme. F-100 fever!

Our LHS had 6 of them so of course my Dad and I each picked one up. We’ve been waiting for these for a while. I still have the Monogram kit too… I’ll probably wait and see if Eduard comes out with a PE set for it…

Someone will probably start pumping out accessories, especially since Trump is likely to release an F model as well.

I like your choice of paint jobs Hawkeye. I will be interested to see how you do the burnt metal effect on the tail. And I really hope Trump releases an F version soon.

Hobby Boss has a F100D and an F100F comming out in December last I heard. Both are 1/48th kits

gary

Is that before or after they release the 1/32 A-6E they promised back in December of '06?

Actually I suppose you have a better chance on the D & F models since they released the C…

For now, the Eduard 48183 F-100C/D PE set should be directly applicable. But it is kind of hard to find. I would hope that Eduard will have a Color Zoom set soon. Most of the decals sheets are the the F-100D. I have 2 from Superscale for the D, but cannot find a C decal yet.

I walked into my LHS in St. Charles, MO and found 2 of the 1/48 Trumpeter kits on the shelf. They have one left when I walked out. As expected, I paid less than mail order.

I have one Monogram F-100D finished (#5416), one in the stash (#5471, High Tech kit with a small PE fret). The Trumpeter is my third Super Sabre kit.

The worst problem of the Monogram kit is the mis-match at the aft fuselage. Still have a visible gap at the finished one. The Trumpeter should not have this problem. My first Monogram was build with the Pretty-Penny scheme.

I had a little fun trying to figure out how to build with the canopy open. Unfortunately, the new Trumpeter instruction has no such “open canopy” step either. Worst, it shows glueing Part# A3 to A2, very wrong for open canopy.

Michael Benolkin’s F-100 site is very useful.

I got confirmation from Sprue Brothers that mine shipped today…it should be here Friday! Going to move this one to the front of the line, I need to do something to showcase use of my NMF paints. [#toast]

That sir is going to look sharp!
Cheers
Dave

It’s HERE!!! [#toast]

At first look I am pleased with what is in the box. The obvious thing that modelers will scream for first for this kit from the aftermarket is a seamless intake trunk. The second…a better cockpit.

The color insert for painting and decal is NICE! Detail seems to be rather good and assembly straight forward. The wings are separte pieces so I’ll have to see if they line up and hold their position well. This will make handling during painting much easier too.

I’ll start on her tonight and should have her ready for paint before the weekend ends unless something keeps me away from the bench. It will be a perfect excuse to leave the lights off upstairs and hind in the basement during the Haloween festivities tomorrow evening.

I wish the tail assembly was a separate piece…molded to the fuselage. Too bad they didn’t follow Tamiya’s lead on this idea like they did with their kits.

I can’t wait to hear from you again, Gerald. Not the pictures, which I always assume to be sharp. I will like to hear your do’s and don’t’s when putting it together. All the tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated.

Legend has a cockpit set for the 100D. What do you think of it?

Here is a teaser shot of my progress thus far. I will do a blog article about the whole build. I did this “hot” section in about 30 minutes. I still need to do a bit more work to get the detail to pop more but that will happen when I do the rest of the model.

Let’s see how it compares with the real thing.
