It occurred to me that I need to post some of my work here if only to legitimize my claims of being a terrible modeller. So here goes.
Well, Agamemnon, here goes:
Tiger: grey is too blue, & wrong shade of wood on tools
KV: too clean & not a tiger!
Kuebel: Love the ‘newspaper effect’ on windscreen, but wrong typeface, & seats too clean
8-Rad: numberplate missing!
[;)] I AM kidding of course! I repeat, I’m KIDDING!
It would be good to indicate scale & manufacturer, to those ‘more knowledgeable’ can give ‘positive’ feedback, eh?
It shows you can ‘walk the walk’, not just ‘talk the talk’, so thumbs up!
Does that mean I’ve got to post some pics as well now? [:-^]
The Tiger was a nightmare to build, it was just too damn small to get all the details right, plus the tracks were horrible to fit to shape around the wheels, then remove, paint and put back on.
The Kubelwagen is missing the decals (I lost the sheet), the bar behind the front seats is not glued on (it kept coming loose and I was afraid it’d break).
The 8Rad was my first 1/35 kit and only my second kit overall. Its biggest problem is that I painted the body and wheels separately, and didn’t weather the wheels at all.
OMG, those are SO HORRIBLE!!! [;)][;)][;)]
I would be proud to have those on my shelf. They may not be perfect (very few of us are – are any?) but they are very very far from terrible.
You want terrible, I’ll shoot my Italerei StuG IV with its way-too-heavy oil washes and share 'em. Maybe this next weekend!
Give yourself some credit, dude. Those are all nice builds.
Too freakin’ bad, man. Maybe you need to take up bonsai or something.
[:-^]
Let’s see, tracks/wheels on the bottom and turrets on the top. I’d say you have the basic concept.
Really, you’ve done a good job. Pictures are rather dark, but still show your ability.
Fortunately for me, I don’t still have some I’ve done, or I could give you a lesson in terrible. I do apologize for disappointing you, I don’t dissapprove of you work/skill/models etc.
I’d go [tup][tup].
Joe [:D][:D]
I think they’re all really nicely done; the only thing I’d recommend is to go a little more subtle on your rust shades, esp. on the Tiger. The cables should not be so rusty; they would have been kept oiled to prevent the depth of rust as you have depicted it, but you can easily change that. Also try to DB the inside of the tracks with steel–tracks wouldn’t be rusty where the wheels are constantly contacting them! And DB the guide horns with silver as well; they would show wear.
Other than that, you’ve got some nice work![tup]
I must be terrible also because I like the builds. They look good to me! [tup]
yeah, I didn’t like how the tow cables turned out. I’ll overpaint them with something else. Plus there’s the third onefor the left side. I filled the location holes for it because I though I’d lost it, but it turned up so I’ll put it on.
Going off topic here, I’ve been wanting to fix the lack of any American and British vehicles on my display shelf, and there’s probably no vehicle more iconic to fix that deficiency as the Sherman, so now I’m looking for the best alternative for a relatively easy build. Probably a regular Sherman and not a Firefly, since I want to go with as ubiquitous a tank as possible.
Back on topic, I’ve already fixed the roof on the Kubel, I’ll post some pics of that when I get em. And quite possibly my Sturer Emil, too, since that’s also beginning to look tank-shaped.
You know…
For some crappy kits, they STILL look better than some of the kits I built. And I have built some dogs!
You’re alot better than you think. We must all be our own worst critics when it comes to our hobbies. Ask me about my Lime green T-72 sometime! That was the first 1/35 kit I built, and it still gives me the chills when I think about it. But of course, I was 15 at the time, and I didn’t have any reference books.[banghead]
Volkswagen calls that color “Cyber Green.” I didn’t know T-72s came in that color!
It looks to me like you are existing just fine. Some good work there. Say, was Achilles as big of a pain as he was made out to be in the flick?[;)] (Troy)
Nice work, I agree, you are way to hard on yourself.
regards,
Steve
So, can anyone recommend any good non-Firefly Sherman kits? Although I still have 2-3 vehicles being worked on, it’d be good to plan ahead.
Any Tamiya Sherman is a good build, and close enough to accurate to be respectable.
BTW, nice builds.
I guess my lack of a digital camera is becoming an irritant, I can’t post pics of any of my terrible builds…
well i for one can only give proper critiqing if you send them all to me so ican set them on the shelf.that way ican see better as my sight is terrible.and that way you’ll have room for more.great idea huh.great builds as youve already heard soom good input now try it out.looks like you had hours of enjoyment .and i wouldnt kick them off any shelf.
I agree with the Tamiya Shermans. If you can find the old kit # 35122, I’d pick it up. Don’t think you’ll find an easier or more pleasant build doing a Sherman.
Joe [:D][:D]
Are those the ones with the open sponsons, though? I’ll see what I can find, although Tamiya kits are pretty expensive around here, regardless of their age, which is somewhat silly when you have the crude Tamiya KV-2 costing twice the price of the Trumpeter one.
haha you think these are bad? back in the day when i had yet to grasp the concept of reference and or histoical accuracy… i uh… built up two dio’s. my first one, which was horrible technique wise as well, depicted an american half track and Walker Bulldog tank, taking on a… Russian jeep-looking vehicle, and… i believe it was a T54? well… of course- born in 1989 i was full of Cold War propaganda- we never fought the nazi.
well… when i figured out that we did i decided id make another one.
so then my second diorama, wich was definitly… a liiiittle better technique wise, was… an LAV-25 and some marines being engaged by a german anti tank gun. no no, not even a modern one, which at least i could play off as some kind of WWIII idea- but it was a blast from the past, complete with SS gunners and all
so these look pretty sweet to me!
Hey I am still working on my first couple and form all the models that I have seen you should be happy with the outcome.
