Hey I am still working on my first couple of models… and from all the models that I have seen you should be happy with the outcome.[:)]
Yes, the tamiya Shermans have the open sponsons. It’s not a problem, if you build them with the hatches closed. You could also just box in the underside of the upper hull, which should prevent you from seeing through the openings.

Okay, that sounds simple enough to work around. I’ve got plenty of styrene sheet lying around from my Warhammer 40k hobby, and I’m no stranger to cutting stuff out of it. Indeed, some of my favorite builds have been done with extensive scratchbuilding, such as the Ogre (a kind of an assault boat on land):

That’s so cute, Aggie!
Trust me, it was lime green my man. I’ve evolved since then. Woo!
Those models are nothing to be ashamed about - they got the modeler’s stamp to them and thats all that matters. You should have seen my Leopard covered in green Ceramcoat and grey tracks!
Yikes, the first local online retailer I found with a Tamiya Sherman for sale had it pegged at 52 EURO. That’s a good 70 dollars, plus s&h. It’d probably be cheaper to order one from Japan! To give an idea of the local price bracket, I can get 2½ Trumpeter KVs for that money, and by spending only 8€ more, a Karl Mörser…

If you don’t mind my asking, since you price up in €Euros, where’s your homepage?
Jon (UK)
what homepage? [%-)]
Some very nice work there Agamemnon i totally approve, also some nice looking scratch building going on there, very good alround.
Ron.
Sorry Agamemnon,
I’ll be clearer, what country are you currently based, if you don’t mind asking?
Oh, Finland.
I went on tour of my local model stores today… Was going to pick up a Sherman, but got distracted. Am now the proud owner of a Zvezda Panzerjager I and Revell’s Borgward IV A… And some 1/72 scale war elephants.
Now I’m dashing headlong into thinking up a diorama where I could have an excuse to put the Borgward and Maus side-by-side.
You’re right, you are a lousy modeller…
…lol I"m just joking. HOnestly, they’re much better than my first builds. I actually really like your warhammer build. I used to play the Eldar quite a bit, but sold my army a few years back.
You definitely have potential to improve. I can see you trying different techniques, which is great. You just need more practice and some advice, and a few more builds later, you should be seeing much improved results [:)]
