Now that’s nice, its certainly a boat load better than my attempt at this kit. We all hope to get better and your starting off a good level.

me too. just finished a PORTEE with base. everybody liked the base but me so i am doing another. but i digress. first airbrushing in months and got the dark yellow down on 4x6 and 37mm. trying a base coat of red brown for chassis. airbrushed tire hubs but will brush paint the tires. easier and faster than masking. have some brush paint touching up which isn’t unusual with suspensions. touching up is easier than sanding runs. which i also have. just put it together and i think i can pull off a rollover off the road showing the suspension. if the camo turns out, i know the oil washes will, i will be finishing up some camo for other GBs. pics posted later but WOOHOO i painted something and it went well.
TAMIYA dark yellow. chassis is red brown and will wash with oils; dark gray, black, burnt umber may try using a sponge for some texture effect. still haven’t gotten the paint color i want. i am thinking for my modern WARWHEELS i will be mixing (for the first time) dark gray with a little gloss black and a touch of brown. haven’t decided on camo as yet but will probably try a green sponge on one and freehand airbrush. might try out new soltar fine AB. streaks on the other. not sure how dirty this is going to get or even what the base is going to look like.
obviously i now have plenty of rocks. 2 batches of hydrocal rocks. right side are from big mold and small mold, left side is the broken rocks and assorted scree. will paint with various WOODLAND SCENICS paints.
no 4 for this build continues. all the tools are painted, tires, almost all the accessories. chassis is washed. next is camo.

got the green on the gun. brushed. played with sponge but too many nooks and crannies. may try it on the truck since it has flat sides and i think it will be interesting to have a different pattern from the gun. different crews, painted at different times, maybe even a different unit. i think i will add some broad brown as well. read a technique to tone down the contrasting colors by misting the final pattern with the base coat. may try that bit will have to mask the cannon. i will spot paint the control handles. i know they were painted but the gray adds some color. artistic license because, as my friend says, i am an artiste.
i think i have a “tell” on my camo because i like to run the colors onto the wheel hubs.
added the brown. i was standing here typing and glanced over at the gun and the shape really is disrupted even on a white background. obviously the colors need to be toned down by a base color mix, oil washes or scrubbing in some powders.

Thanks. Will start weathering today. had tornado warnings tonight so my frau joined me in the bunker. Didnt stop my building. Also got M -1117 base coated for MERDC desert camo. Still debating stuka build as i have 5 but overcommitted and now hosting 2 GBs. Sci fi could be huge and 1/72 looking good. Longest day lcvp still vexing me. May have try a different green. Oh well. Regionals in july my first.
DUCKHUNTER 4 is done and 5 is 35% done. turret is done most of hull, damned indy tracks are next.
this base is not as fancy as i would like so as to keep it in armor soft skin and not vignette. paints are TAMIYA and MMA. all the weathering is oils again, raw umber and medium gray. base is model clay and liquidtex. first time i airbrushed the dirt. grass is obviously turf and base was oversprayed with dust to tone everything down.

thanks to all for the kind words. i think i like the left side view the best. i’m glad i painted all the wheels on the truck green or brown. personally i think even a dirty round yellow would stand out too much in a tree line.
btw just ordered the new THE WEATHERING MAGAZINE on snow and ice and the new SQUADRON has a tutorial on snow base building. it’s time to do a snow scene and i have a camoed 50mm PAK mit crew to practice on.
as for being a “styrene machine” (i like that), region 10 regionals is next month and, though i will take a number of wins with me from my local contest, i also want to take some new stuff. i posted the list to finish over in 1944 GB.
I was extremely busy lately but I’m back now.
