Duck Hunter GB

I am painting the frame the same British Gulf armour stone as the rest, but the engine, radiator, transfercase, and driveshafts are going to be black. The axles are getting painted.

i painted the entire frame of my UN UNIMOG tamiya flat brown. painted the outside of the frame and assorted fuel tanks and cargo boxes.white. the motor is steel, chrome silver and metallic gray and pin washed with raw umber.

Warning to all Duck Hunters.

NORAD is currently tracking a fast moving object, currently heading East into Belarus, but expected to head towards western Europe soon and then make its way to the US coast. The object can be identified by a single pilot of large statue in red suit and open cockpit. Object makes a very distinctive bell sound.

Do not, repeat, do not engage.

Merry Christmas to all, and a happy new year. Now get building and lets see some Flak.

Austrian Duck Hunter company here: Confirming orders, target won’t be engaged by us! “Frohe Weihnachten” from Vienna!

Uhhhhhhh…did it have a red sleigh? Red suit? Eightish reindeer? oppps. [:$]

Didn’t put up much of a fight either. That 88 just ripped a…JUST KIDDING!

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays everyone! Hope everyone is having or will have an awesome Christmas!

Finally made a start on the 88 yesterday. Looking at the kit, there is certainly room for some improvement. In the main, I need to make handles for the hand wheels, the kit ones are just small stub’s. I also need to add some bolts in a few places, not sure how yet, I don’t have a punch and die set, so going to have to try and make them by hand. The panoramic Telescope which sits in the recuperator is very poorly details. But this was covered when not in use, so I am going to try and make one of those.

The biggest issue is that the barrel has no rifling. So the two options are to try and rifle it or make a cover. I think option two is the most likely.

So far I have assembled the barrel and the cradle, I won’t be putting the two together until after painting.

This give an idea of how big this is, the barrel is over 10inches long.

That’s it for now. Going to try and add those missing details and start on the pedestal.

hey bish

if it’s in travel mode the sights would be boxed up and the breech and muzzle would have covers. be a shame to hide all the breech detail but you could always drape it like it fell off. i wonder if the handles were stowed and just attached when unreeling the wire? if so they wouldn’t be attached in travel mode either.

Your probably right wayne, but I am doing it deployed but not in action. The site in question is used for setting up the gun, I have some pics of 88’s in action with it covered. The handles in question are on the hand wheels that move the gun, but they should be easy to sort out.

I am putting it on a simple desert base. And I think putting a cover over the muzzle would make sense in such an environment.

my base will be a tad more elaborate as it is a lumber reinforced AA gun pit with room for the trails. maybe just one or 2 figures kind of looking out but not in action.

Back from holidays and did some work on the truck. Did the base coat and added a filter to all the top parts of the truck. Installed the engine and used some light rust pigment from MiG on it and wrapped the cable around the winch.

I than dusted the bottom parts of the truck with graphite powder.

I attempted to add fuel stains around the gas caps. Not sure I like how it turned out though. I used a mixture of black enamel and raw umber oil paint.

Looking forward to seeing your build in that base wayne.

That’s looking nice shiv.

i have one of these and another SA-2 which will go on a T-55 chassis for a cuban mod. also have 4 tank transporters and a pair of PLA DF-21s so lots of semis.

i still haven’t figured out the best color for truck frames and this is soviet so metal and paint quality is not as good as us or german. just finished a UNIMOG in KEEPERS OF THE PEACE GB if you want to see another truck. just wade through to see in essence a build log. sounds like i’m bragging ( HELL I AM) even the auto forum guys liked it and i need all the suggestions i can get for chassis work.

as for the 88 base, sme too. uppose to warm up this weekend so i have a pair of 1/35 boats to start camo on and DANA to add the 2nd and 3rd color.

Wow that looks really great Shiv. really great.

Must get back to mine too, I have two more to go, the 4 gun Mobelwagen and the Ostwind.

Cheers

The clocks ticking Tony, 3 and a half months to go.[;)]

Yeah, seems a bit early Bish

I had hoped to be a bit further on by now, but a few things have come up that I wanted to chance and hadn’t expected. But thought I better get an update in. I will go into more depth on the changes in the WiP thread to save repeating everything.

The platform is together, still a few changes to make and other bit to add, but its mostly there.

The left side of the cradle is done, still got to work on the other side.

And the back of the barrel is together.

Doesn’t look much, but as I hope you can see from the white bits, theres been a lot of changes made.

Looking really good there, Bish!

I saw one of those beasts built-up at my LHS yesterday and oh boy, it’s a huge chunk of plastic!

Thanks, ye its looking that way already. When its more complete, I will do a comparison pic with my 35th Tiger.

Good progress Bish. It’s looking massive. Somehow that gives it realism too, it even looks heavy.

Cheers

Tony

Thanks Tony, yes the platform does have some weight to it already.

How’s everyone else getting on.
